Ecruteak City & Surrounding Routes:

Head back outside from the Pokémon Center in Ecruteak City after healing. Your Surf ability opens up new areas.

Surf Item Roundup:

  • Violet City: Northwest of the Gym and southeast of Sprout Tower, find a PP Up and a Rare Candy in a small channel.
  • Union Cave: On the next floor below the Swift TM, surf east and north to find trainers. In the southwestern corner of 1F, surf across a pond to a new area. Descend via a ladder. Surf east to find an Elixer. Continue west and south to find a trainer and a Hyper Potion. Further exploration may lead to another trainer and a ladder. On the next floor, surf east along the rock wall for an Elixer. Go west and south to a water intersection. The southern path has a trainer and a Hyper Potion. The western path leads upstairs to another trainer. South from the landing spot reveals another trainer and water. On Fridays, you can find a Lapras in this water.
  • Route 34: Along the west side, surf south to find a clearing with three trainers. After defeating them, the last trainer you fought will give you a Soft Sand, which boosts the power of Ground-type moves by 10%.
  • Route 35: In the southwestern part near the Goldenrod gatehouse, surf across a small pond to find a Mystery Berry tree. Mystery Berries restore 5 PP to a move upon immediate use.

Wild Pokémon Info:

  • Route 38: Magnemite (Electric), Magneton (Electric/Steel), Tauros (Normal), Miltank (Normal). Magnemite and Magneton are weak to Ground moves.
  • Route 39: Similar wild Pokémon to Route 38.
