Complete guide to obtaining the Hive Badge in Pokémon Crystal, including Azalea Town, Slowpoke Well, and Leader Bugsy's Gym strategy.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Upon arriving near Azalea Town, you'll find the Slowpoke Well blocked. Proceed west into Azalea Town.
  2. 2
Visit the Poké Mart and Pokémon Center.
  3. 3
In the northwestern corner of town, find a tree that yields a Wht Apricorn.
  4. 4
Enter the house near the tree and speak with Kurt. He will go to the Slowpoke Well.
  5. 5
Follow Kurt to the Slowpoke Well and enter it.
  6. 6
Navigate the well, fighting Team Rocket Grunts and picking up a Super Potion.
  7. 7
Defeat the final grunt to clear the well. Kurt will leave.
  8. 8
Return to Azalea Town and speak with Kurt. He will give you a Lure Ball and offer to craft Poké Balls from Apricorns. He can make a Fast Ball from the Wht Apricorn, which normally helps against fleeing Pokémon but has a glitchy effect.
  9. 9
Heal your party and proceed to the Azalea Town Gym.
  10. 10
Navigate the Gym, battling trainers along the edges until you reach the center to face Gym Leader Bugsy.

Azalea Town Gym - Leader Bugsy

Bugsy's Pokémon Party:

  • Metapod Lv. 14 (Bug)
  • Kakuna Lv. 14 (Bug/Poison)
  • Scyther Lv. 16 (Bug/Flying)

Strategy:

  • Metapod and Kakuna primarily use String Shot to lower your Speed and Harden to boost their Defense. They have weak attacks like Tackle and Poison Sting. Use Special-class moves (Fire, Electric, Water) to bypass Harden's defense boost. Switching Pokémon after defeating one can help negate stat debuffs.
  • Scyther is faster and stronger. Its Fury Cutter move is particularly dangerous as it gains power with successive uses and benefits from STAB (Same-Type Attack Bonus).
  • Use your fastest Pokémon that resists Bug-type moves (Flying, Fire) or Pokémon with Rock-type moves (like Onix, which has high Defense and learns Rock moves).
  • Hive Badge: Allows use of Cut outside battle, makes traded Pokémon under Lv. 30 obey, and boosts Bug-type move power by 12.5%.
  • TM49 (Fury Cutter): A move that increases its power with successive uses.

Treasures Checklist:

  • Wht Apricorn
  • Lure Ball
  • Hive Badge
  • TM49 (Fury Cutter)
