Guide to defeating Gonarch in Half-Life's Part 55. Learn strategies for using the hornet gun and explosives to overcome this boss and its baby headcrabs.

Walkthrough:

1. Near a dead HEV soldier, approach the 'whoosh-thing' on the ground. Quicksave.
2. Run onto the 'whoosh-thing' and jump through the large hole to land outside without taking damage. If you fail, quickrestore and retry.
3. Follow Gonarch into the cave it entered.
4. At the cave shaft, jump to the narrow ledge with a light crystal.
5. Turn around and jump toward the light crystal in the wall across the shaft, then crouch as you fall to land in section c4a2b without damage.
6. Once on the floor in section c4a2b, turn around to see Gonarch jump into a pit at the end of a short, slippery cave tunnel.
7. To avoid falling, move slowly down the tunnel. Lean on the 'Move backward' key when halfway down to stop sliding. You should become immobile unless you jump or heavily lean on a movement key.
8. Equip the hornet gun and fire hornets at a spot over the drop-off, aiming for Gonarch. They should swerve down and hit it.
9. If you don't hear 'crunch' sounds indicating damage, try firing hornets at different spots, including higher ones. Change your position and jump while firing. Avoid sliding too close to the drop-off to prevent Gonarch from attacking.
10. Once Gonarch changes position, it should be easier to hit. Continue horneting until it is defeated.
11. If hornet attacks are ineffective or too slow, use hand grenades or C4 satchel bombs. For grenades, aim carefully to ensure they hit Gonarch. For satchels, detonate them as soon as they fall out of sight. You may need to jump before throwing and lean backward to avoid sliding.
12. After Gonarch is dead, turn on your flashlight and move slowly forward. Fire hornets down the tunnel to kill any remaining baby headcrabs.
13. Aim for the left side of the drop-off. As you go over the edge, lean on the 'Move backward' key to land on a small ledge above the floor.
14. Use your flashlight to scan the floor for any remaining baby headcrabs and hornet-shoot them.
15. Crouch-drop to the floor. Collect the four armor batteries in a dark corner and the nearby ammo canister.
16. Go to the large hole in the floor created by Gonarch's explosion.
17. If your health is below 100%, carefully crouch-drop onto the edge of the hole's side area containing a health pool. Heal up.
18. Save your game in both a regular and quicksave slot.
