Walkthrough
- 1Past the hallway, sneak-shoot or engage enemies. If spotted, retreat to the fallen door in the elevator shaft to gain an advantage.
- 2Locate the large red wheel on the wall and use it to activate steam vents down the hall.
- 3Approach the steam but do not enter. As aliens teleport in, retreat to a nearby room and exit through the back right door.
- 4After a short wait, return to the hall doorway and fire hornets toward the steam to damage or kill enemies.
- 5Strafe into the hall briefly to lure surviving aliens into the steam, then retreat to cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) as they die.
- 6If only vortigaunts appear, toss a hand grenade past the steam toward the back wall to trigger a grunt's appearance. If not, it may not appear.
- 7Shut off the steam by using the same wheel again.
- 8Turn the corner past the steam vents to find two more grunts. Quicksave and attempt to sneak-shoot them with hornets.
- 9If they attack aggressively, quickrestore and consider getting help from a security guard or using heavier weapons like the crossbow.
- 10At the end of their hallway, find a ladder leading down to a small optional area in section c3a2f. Crouch-hop onto the railing and run onto the ladder to avoid a fall.
Section c3a2f: SIDE AREA WITH SUPPLIES
- In the room at the bottom of the ladder, find the numbers 2, 4, and 7 written in blood on the floor near a reactor core diagram.
- Use stacked crates to hop over a fence and land on a middle walkway in the next room.
- Crouch-walk under a fallen beam to reach a health pack and gauss gun ammo.
- Crouch-walk back under the beam and use the ladder on the left side of the fence to get back over it.
- Return up the tall ladder to section c3a2c.
Section c3a2c (again): ASCENDING THE CORE, PART 2
- Go through the "CORE LEVEL B" door down a side hall.
- Walk next to the teleporter orb closest to the core fence.
- Watch for a rotating platform to move under the nearest orb past the fence.
- Enter the portal next to you to reach the moving platform.
- You will rotate around ports 1 through 3. Jump into port 1 to be teleported to a headcrab-infested area.
- In the grate-floored room, kill the headcrab ahead. Another will drop near the ladder; kill it and any subsequent drops.
- Use your flashlight to find and kill headcrabs in the two dark side niches along the right wall (three headcrabs per niche, dropping one at a time).
- Go to the edge of the grate-floored room and kill the headcrab near the wall to the left with hornets. Wait for more to fall, or check the ceiling if none appear.
- Kill the headcrab visible to the left of the portal on the platform at the other end of the room.
- Use altfire hornets to break floor gratings or walk along the floor beam across the room to a spot near the ladder on the other side.
- Jump to the ladder and climb it to the portal platform.
- Collect hand grenades from a crate near the portal and go through it to return to the starting teleporter area.
- After returning to a rotating platform, go through port 3 to reach a secret supply room.
- Use the exit portal to return to the starting teleporter area.
- Go through port 2, but jump to the port 2 ledge when the rotating platform is approaching it, not directly in front of it.
- Quicksave, turn, and look up. Wait for a rotating platform to move under the portal almost directly above you.
- Back up into port 2 and immediately start crouching as the platform moves under a pipe between ports 6 and 4.
- Wait until you can jump into port 5, which leads to a room with supplies and three scientists.
- Go through the room's door and down a hallway to another room with supplies and a portal back to the starting teleporter area.
- Go through port 2 again to reach the next level.
- Jump to port 4's ledge and quicksave.
- Look up and right to see the portal for port 4. Back into it when a moving platform is in position.
- Crouch when the platform moves under a pipe. Jump into port 8.

- If enemies spot you before you can sneak-shoot them, use the fallen door in the elevator shaft as cover.
