    Turn right at the shaft intersection to find an armor battery and a bullet clip near a dead security guard.

    Go to the other end of the shaft, break the vent grating, and enter a room with barnacles.

    Defeat the barnacles and collect nearby supplies.

    Find the ladder near a barnacle, climb it, and drop onto the shaft to the left, or jump to a position where you can kill the barnacle.

    At the top of the curving shafts, crouch-walk to the large shaft opening and enter it.

    If successful, enter the control room, use the big red button to open the nearby silo door, then go through it and move on to the "Blast Pit" chapter. This trick works better in the Source version of Half-Life.

    Watch a scientist run into a laser tripmine (a proximity-activated explosive device) at the end of the corridor.

    In the following corridor, move forward until a vortigaunt (an alien creature) teleports in.
