Learn how to defeat the new Shrieker and Elite Theron enemies in Gears of War 3. This guide covers their attack patterns, weaknesses, and strategies for survival.
Walkthrough
- 1Immediately after starting, you will be attacked by new floating enemies called Shriekers. They resemble small Gas Barges with guns and shriek frequently.
- 2Shriekers are fragile, similar to Tickers, but can dodge shots effectively. Eliminate them and any other Locust enemies.
- 3Proceed forward towards the railing to encounter Elite Therons, a new enemy type dropped from a Gas Barge.
- 4Elite Therons are the Queen's elite guards, typically armed with Torque Bows and Lancers. Avoid close-range combat.
- 5After defeating the first wave of Therons, a gate will open, revealing a fork in the road. The right path offers little cover from a turret, while the left path has a Savage Boomer and an opportunity to flank the turret enemy. Choose the left path.
- 6Before taking the left path, turn right from the gate and break down the door to find ammunition and a Boomshot.
- 7Continue fighting all enemies until you reach the end of the area. Open the gate and proceed to the switch elevator. Use the elevator to reach your new transport to Anvil Gate.
- 8Objective: Defend against attacking Gas Barge. Shooting the Gas Barge directly will not damage it enough to make it approach.
- 9The Gas Barge will drop 1 to 2 Elite Therons per pass until it stops.
- 10Therons dropped on towers are armed with Lancers. If you wish to perform a chainsaw execution, eliminate one of these first. Be cautious of a second Theron attacking from behind during a chainsaw attempt.
- 11When the Gas Barge stops, two Therons on the barge will be armed with Torque Bows. Eliminate them and then board the barge to complete this chapter.
- 12Objective: Rescue Dizzy. As you travel towards Anvil Gate, you will receive a distress call from Dizzy Wallin.
- 13Proceed to the turret and shoot down the other two barges. Aim above the barges, as they are made of Boomshots, for the best results.
Tips
- Shriekers are weak but agile; prioritize taking them down before they overwhelm you.
- Elite Therons are dangerous at range due to Torque Bows and Lancers; use cover and try to flank them.
- When facing the Gas Barge, focus on the dropped Elite Therons rather than trying to damage the barge itself.
- Be aware of Therons on towers carrying Lancers, especially if attempting chainsaw executions.
- When the Gas Barge stops, prioritize eliminating the Torque Bow-wielding Therons before boarding.
