This section of the guide is about understanding DAMAGE in Gears of War 3. We'll break down how damage works so you can get the upper hand.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Prologue: You start in a cell. Go through the door, take a right, and open the cell door to your right for a collectible. Continue down the hall and exit. Outside, run forward, take cover behind a wall, and shoot the Lambent. After a cutscene, the prologue ends.
  2. 2
Act 1, Chapter 1: Anchored: On the desk behind you is a collectible paper. Head into the hallway, follow the lady into the room to the left, hug the left wall past the cots to find another collectible on a dinner tray. Back in the hall, open the next door on the right, then the one after that. Collect the item on the table in front of Jack. Continue upstairs, take a couple of rights, and talk to Anya. Follow the objective marker to watch Nash get attacked. Clear the polyps, turn right, and go up the stairs.
  3. 3
Meet the Drudge. Shoot him in his glowing belly. Head left, shoot the Drudge by the edge, then go up the stairs to your right to activate the dock lift. After a cutscene with Prescott, you'll head through the gardens.
  4. 4
Cross the deck carefully, as Lambent will be shooting at you. Take cover and aim for their glowing parts. After clearing them with help from a Raven, go to the back left corner of the deck. Look up at the catwalk above and shoot the hanging dead Gear to make him drop his tags. Head for the stairs on the right, go through the door at the end of the catwalk, and watch the cutscene.
  5. 5
Turn around and go back the way you came. Before going down the stairs, use your height advantage to clear the Lambent below. Back on the deck, head towards the lifts, clearing enemies as you go. A COG will raise the lift for you. Use it to cross to the other side of the deck. You'll end up back where you first met the Drudge. Go back down the stairs to where Nash died.
  6. 6
Pick up the extinguisher and put out the fire. Aim slightly higher than you think you need to. You'll encounter more Lambent in the next hall; hang back and take them out. At the end of the hall, turn right to save Prescott.
  7. 7
Act 1, Chapter 2: Abandon Ship: Head straight down the hall and take a left at the end. Tip a table for cover and take out the Lambent from a distance. Go right and talk to the people moving the vending machine, then go through the door on the left.
  8. 8
The next room is open with many Lambent ahead. Find cover and pick off a few, but also watch the catwalk above and to the right. The left side of the room offers good cover and flanking angles. Take out the Drudge and other Lambent, then drop down and follow the path to the first Deck lift.
  9. 9
The Raven pilot will mention raising the lift. You'll be attacked by enemies from the right. Try to get up the stairs quickly for cover, as they have a height advantage. Once they're cleared, go past the door they came from and up the stairs to the catwalk. Follow it to the control room to raise the lift.
  10. 10
Exit the control room and go down the stairs to your right. After talking to the next Raven pilot, the chopper is destroyed, and you have to...
Tips
  • Always aim for the glowing weak points on Lambent enemies for critical damage.
  • Use cover frequently, especially in open areas, to avoid taking unnecessary damage.
  • Listen to NPC callouts and objective markers to stay on track.
  • Collectibles are often found off the main path or in easily missed spots, so keep an eye out.
