Your guide to Chapter 29 of Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, "Cog of Destiny." Learn enemy weaknesses, boss strategies, and how to recruit Vaida.

Alright, welcome to Chapter 29, "Cog of Destiny." This is a pretty big one, and the main objective here is simple: defeat all the enemies on the map. But how you get there and who you'll face depends a bit on your choices from way back in Chapter 24. Let's break it down!

New Character Alert: Keep an eye out for Vaida. She's initially an enemy but can be recruited if Hector talks to her after she appears. She shows up after a unit crosses the mountain range on the map.

Boss Data: Who you fight here depends on who you faced in Chapter 24. You'll be up against one of the Reed brothers. They both wield the powerful Light Brand and Iron Rune.

  • Lloyd (Swordmaster L18) - HP 52, STR 20, SKL 23, SPD 21, DEF 15, RES 19, LUC 16. Drops Light Brand and Iron Rune.
  • Linus (Hero L18) - HP 58, STR 24, SKL 20, SPD 15, DEF 19, RES 15, LUC 14. Drops Light Brand and Iron Rune.

Items to Grab:

  • Warp: Found in a village on the west side of the map.
  • Iron Rune: Dropped by defeating the Reed brother who is the boss.
Walkthrough
  1. 1
Initial Deployment & Split Forces: As soon as you deploy, you'll want to start splitting your army. Oswin is a great candidate to head west and start dealing with the foes in that direction. Your magic users and promoted lords should head north, as that's where a significant chunk of the enemy army, including generals, will be.
  2. 2
Utilize Fliers: Your flying units are crucial here. Use them to disarm the ballistas that can cause a lot of damage from afar. They can also reach the village on the west side quickly to snag that Warp staff. Don't hesitate to use that Delphi Shield if you have it to protect your fliers.
  3. 3
Vaida's Appearance: This map can take a while, so don't get discouraged. After many turns of fighting and clearing out enemies, Vaida will make her appearance. Make sure Hector is the one to talk to her to recruit her to your side.
  4. 4
Dealing with Wyverns: Once Vaida joins, you might see some wyverns appear. Your magic users will be the best bet for taking them down efficiently.
  5. 5
Stocking Up: Use your fliers again to make trips back to your supply to restock on items if needed. It's a good opportunity to ensure your units are ready for the final push.
  6. 6
Advancing West & Stopping Reinforcements: Have your main lords slowly push west. At the same time, assign some units to watch the north and intercept any reinforcements that might try to sneak through.
  7. 7
The Final Push: As Oswin and your main lords meet up, enemy appearances will start to dwindle. This is your cue to focus on the boss. A team attack is highly recommended, and ranged attacks are particularly effective against the boss.
  8. 8
Chapter Clear: Once the boss is defeated, mop up any remaining reinforcements to officially clear the chapter.
Tips
  • The map is large, so managing your unit's movement and positioning is key. Don't overextend your units, especially early on.
  • Fliers are invaluable for reaching objectives and dealing with threats like ballistas. Protect them as best you can.
  • Recruiting Vaida with Hector is a significant power boost, so make sure he's in a position to talk to her when she appears.
  • Magic users are great for dealing with wyverns and can also be effective against the boss.
  • Keep an eye on enemy reinforcements from the north while you advance west.
