Lothering

Follow our walkthrough for Dragon Age II's Lothering section. Learn how to defeat Darkspawn, find loot, and progress through this early game area.

Alright, so you've just regained control of Hawke outside of Lothering. It's a bit of a mess, huh? Head on down the path; you won't get far before a bunch of Hurlocks decide to attack. They're pretty weak, so just take 'em out – you'll probably level up after this. Now, scour the bodies of the dead refugees scattered around for any useful items. Keep heading up the path. After a short cutscene, you'll have to fight some more Darkspawn. Help out the other two folks you see down the way, then chat with Aveline and Wesley to get the lowdown on what's happening. They'll suggest heading south to the Wilds, so agree to that.

Continue on your way. You'll find another dead refugee, and wouldn't you know it, more Darkspawn show up. Keep pushing forward; there's another dead refugee and yet more Darkspawn waiting for you. When you fight this group, try to take out the Hurlock Bolters first. After the fight, check the surrounding rubble for anything useful before moving on. Around the next bend, you'll find another dead refugee with some potions. Right past this poor soul is an open area where the Darkspawn are planning an ambush. Watch out, because an Emissary Apprentice will pop up in the middle of the fight – make them your top priority!
