An Update and Family Matters (Optional)

Follow our guide to complete the 'An Update and Family Matters' quest in Dragon Age II. Learn where to go, who to talk to, and how to defeat enemies.

Alright, let's get this quest sorted! First up, you'll need to head over to The Hanged Man. Find Varric there and have a chat with him. He'll ask you to visit his brother, Bartrand, which will wrap up 'An Update' and kick off the 'Family Matters' quest.

Now, for 'Family Matters,' you'll need to make your way to Hightown after dark. Head into Bartrand’s Estate. A cutscene will play out, and then suddenly, it's Varric versus a whole bunch of Guards! Once you've dealt with them, there'll be a short break, and you'll regain control of your whole party.

As Varric, you'll need to clear out the enemies in the main room. After that, check the crate nearby. Then, push through the door to face some more guards. You'll find another crate to loot, so grab that and keep heading west. You'll encounter a Crazed Commander. Head north into the next room – watch out, there are trap - standard on the floor!

After you've dealt with the guards in this room, move into the next one. Be careful, as this floor is covered in trap - master . After disarming the traps, go south. Loot the crate once all the waves of guards are down. A scene will trigger, and then you'll want to check the chest in the right room for Silverite-Reinforced Buckles. The chest in the left room contains a Belt of the Primevals. For now, leave this area and head to the northern section. You'll find more guards and two crates here. The eastern room has two more crates and a chest - complex. Inside that complex chest, you'll find some Blackened Greaves.

Once you've looted everything, return to the main room with the rest of your party and clear out the remaining guards. Another scene will play out. Finally, head back to the main foyer and enter the next area to continue your adventure.
