Learn the core mechanics of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim's real-time strategy combat, including unit selection, actions like Attack, Move, Repair, and Defend, and Wait Time (WT).

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim features a real-time strategy with pause combat system. While movement and some attacks happen in real time, the game pauses during action selection and execution. Every action incurs a Wait Time (WT), a cooldown period in seconds before a unit can act again. Available units can be selected by moving the cursor over them and pressing X, or by scrolling with L1/R1 or the d-pad.

Once a unit is selected, a command panel appears with four options:

  • Action: Use an armament, typically to attack a targeted kaiju. Some armaments may have other uses. Powerful armaments often consume EP (Energy Points).
  • Move: Relocates the unit. Moving takes time but does not incur WT, allowing for mid-move command changes. Sentinels, except for G4s, must follow roads when moving.
  • Repair: Ejects the pilot to repair their Sentinel. The pilot can choose where to eject, and can move until a repair timer (4-15 in-game seconds, based on damage) is up. Once the timer ends, the pilot can summon the Sentinel back with full health. If an ejected pilot is defeated, the player loses immediately. Ejected pilots generally don't need to follow roads.
  • Defend (Charge EP): The unit defends for 8 in-game seconds, indicated by a defend timer. This action reduces incoming damage by 50%. Upon completion, the unit recovers 30% of its maximum EP.

The basic game flow involves selecting units, attacking kaiju, and moving units as needed.
