Master The Witcher with our comprehensive Hints & Tips guide. Learn about saving, grinding, combat, Orens, NPCs, and more to enhance your Geralt experience.
Walkthrough:
- Save your game frequently, utilizing multiple save slots to prevent data loss from corruption, death, or crashes, and to allow for retrying quest decisions.
- At the beginning of each chapter, especially the first three, prepare to grind for experience. Monsters yield less experience as Geralt's level increases, so prioritize grinding before completing quests, which offer static experience. This strategy allows for easier leveling and a stronger Geralt.
- Regularly consult your books and journal entries. Understanding monster weaknesses improves loot acquisition, and knowing plants aids in gathering alchemical ingredients for potion crafting.
- Engage in boxing matches as a primary method for earning Orens, which are necessary for purchasing books, alcohol, and other items. Boxing offers a consistent and efficient way to earn Orens outside of quests.
- When playing poker for Orens, target players with higher starting wagers to maximize potential winnings. For example, playing against Thaler in Chapter 2, who bets a minimum of 110 Orens, is more profitable than playing against Munro, who bets 40 Orens.
- Sell excess weapons to earn Orens. Low-quality items like Temerian Steel Swords and Torches sell for 40 Orens each. While trekking to a blacksmith can be inconvenient and items may vanish if left on the ground, regularly selling unwanted gear is beneficial. By Chapter 3, Ceremonial Swords of Deithwen can be sold for 300 Orens each.
- Initiate conversations with every NPC you encounter, as even those with generic names may offer valuable information or dialogue.
- If an NPC becomes unresponsive (indicated by floating text), leave their immediate area and return to re-engage them. Some NPCs, like Shani in Chapter 2, may be intentionally less talkative due to their circumstances or simply have nothing to say.
- Collect and store all items found, including food, clothing, gems, jewelry, flowers, and alcohol, from containers like boxes, chests, and barrels. These items can be useful for late-game quests or specific interactions, and storing them avoids the need to repurchase them later.
- Be aware that NPCs follow daily schedules and may not be available at all times. For instance, some tavern patrons sleep at night, and Shani works at the hospital during the day.
- Note that most NPCs seek shelter indoors at night due to increased danger. The minimap's circular indicator shows the safety of your current location; a
