The concept of 'Item Quality' in Team Fortress 2 refers to a cosmetic tag applied to most weapons and cosmetic items. This tag does not affect the item's stats or gameplay mechanics in any way; it is purely for aesthetic and organizational purposes. Different qualities are often associated with different ways of obtaining the item, such as drops, crafting, or special events.

• Normal: The default quality for most items obtained through random drops or crafting.
• Unique: Often obtained through crafting, trading, or as a reward from certain achievements. This is the most common quality for non-event items.
• Vintage: These items were originally Normal quality but were upgraded to Vintage during a specific in-game event. They are no longer obtainable through normal means.
• Genuine: Awarded to players who owned certain items in other games before a specific date or participated in special promotions.
• Strange: These items track player statistics, such as kills or critical hits, specific to that weapon. They can be upgraded with 'Strangifier' items.
• Haunted: Typically obtained from Halloween-themed event drops or crates. These items often have a spooky visual effect.
• Collector's: Awarded to players who collected all the items needed for a specific crafting recipe during a limited-time event.
• Deluxe Community: A rare quality given to items created by community members that were featured in official updates.
• Valve: Exclusive to items directly created and distributed by Valve, often for promotional purposes or as special rewards.
• Self-Made: Items created by community members that have been purchased by Valve for inclusion in the game.
• Custom Event: Quality assigned to items from specific, limited-time community events.
• Contraband: A quality associated with items from specific crates that are no longer available through normal gameplay.
• Wondrous: A quality associated with items from the Mann Co. Supply Crate Series #50.
• Fancy: A quality associated with items from the Mann Co. Supply Crate Series #51.
• Unique (Festivized): A special variant of the Unique quality that can be applied to certain weapons to give them a festive appearance and the ability to track kills.
