Alternate World

Discover the Super Mario World Alternate World's color palette and enemy changes, and learn how to reach Bowser's Castle in just 11 levels.

The Alternate World in Super Mario World is not a new area with additional levels. Instead, it changes the color palette of the Dinosaur Land map, including sub-areas like the Vanilla Dome and the Forest of Illusion. The individual levels retain their original colors. The only other alteration is to the appearance of three regular enemies: the Koopa transforms into a Mask Koopa, the Jumping Piranha Plant becomes a Jumping Pumpkin Plant, and the Bullet Bill changes to a Pidgit Bill. This change is permanent and cannot be reverted.

Getting to Bowser's Castle in 11 Levels

It is possible to reach the Front Door of Bowser's Castle in only 11 levels (with the 12th level being the Front Door itself). This challenge is recommended for experienced players after completing a normal playthrough, as some levels can be difficult. This method was discovered by anomie.

11. Star World 4 (Secret Exit)

After completing Star World 4, take the Star Road before Star World 5 to reach the Front Door, also known as Bowser's Castle.

96 Level Checklist for 100% Completion

To achieve 100% completion in Super Mario World, you must find and complete all 96 level exits, including both normal and secret exits. The Bowser's Castle levels (Front Door and Back Door) do not count towards this total as they do not save after completion. The number of completed levels is displayed when you load your save file at the start of the game.
