1-Up Mushroom Locations - Whomp's Fortress

Hey there! Whomp's Fortress is a classic level, and if you're looking to snag some extra lives, you've come to the right place. We'll guide you to all four hidden 1-Up Mushrooms scattered throughout this course. Let's get started!

1. Location 1: Near the Yellow Flowers

   When you first enter Whomp's Fortress, ignore the main path leading upwards. Instead, head onto the grassy area to your left. Keep walking past the sleeping Piranha Plant and a signpost. You'll soon spot two patches of yellow flowers. Go to the first patch of flowers. A few butterflies will pop out (they'll appear at the second patch too, but the one you need is here). You'll see three butterflies; start kicking them. If you manage to kick the lucky one, it'll transform into a precious 1-Up Mushroom!

2. Location 2: On the Spinning Platform

   Make your way through the level until you reach a spinning wooden platform. You'll find it a little ways past the third Piranha Plant you encounter. Hop onto the center of this spinning platform. Let it carry you past the roof-shaped platform. Once you're past that, quickly move to the very edge of the platform and wait. As it starts moving again, it'll pass by four yellow coins and one red coin. When you touch the third yellow coin, a 1-Up Mushroom will pop up underneath it. You'll need to be super quick here! As soon as it appears, dash underneath to grab it before it disappears.

3. Location 3: At the Flagpole

   This one's pretty straightforward! Just make your way to the very end of the level, where the flagpole stands. Climb all the way to the tippy-top of the flagpole. Doing so will cause the third 1-Up Mushroom to appear.

4. Location 4: Inside the Tower Alcove

   For this mushroom, you'll need to start the level with a star other than 'Chip Off Whomp's Block.' So, make sure you've selected any star *except* the first one. Once you've done that, head to the very top of Whomp's Fortress where the main tower is located. Stand at the base of the tower and go around to the back, the side facing away from the Bullet Bill Cannon. Give the wall a punch! If you hit the right spot, the wall will blast open, revealing a secret alcove with a stationary 1-Up Mushroom inside.
