Walkthrough

When Metal Overlord uses Chaos Control, it reverses colors and freezes your team for twenty seconds. Rapidly press the A button and move the control stick to speed up the effect. Be ready to switch to Knuckles immediately after being unfrozen, as Metal Overlord often attacks with a ship.

Metal Overlord traps characters in ice blocks that must be destroyed.

You cannot damage Metal Overlord with regular attacks; use Team Blast attacks.

To charge Team Blast, collect rings and dodge/counter Metal Overlord's attacks.

A special Super Sonic version of Team Blast is used in this battle.

You must use five Team Blasts to defeat Metal Overlord.

Balloons stop appearing after three or four Team Blasts, which removes your ring source. Ensure you have at least thirty rings saved before using the third Team Blast.

Dying does not restart the entire scenario; you restart at the beginning of the Metal Overlord fight.

Tips

Move the control stick and rapidly press A to shorten the Chaos Control freeze duration.
Switch to Knuckles immediately after Chaos Control ends to dodge incoming attacks.
Dodge and counter Metal Overlord's attacks to charge your Team Blast.
Have at least thirty rings saved before using your third Team Blast, as balloons will stop appearing afterward.

Level 1: Seaside Hill

Mission Bio: "Get to the Goal Ring within 5 minutes!"

Use Sonic for speed and utilize the light dash on rows of rings to save time. Jump in the cannon on the big sandy beach instead of flying over the sea with Tails. For an "A" rank, memorize the location of rainbow rings and have all three characters pass through them for bonus points. Stick to Sonic during large loops and defeat enemies quickly. Use Team Blast instead of fighting large groups of enemies conventionally.

Level 2: Ocean Palace

Mission Bio: "Get to the Goal Ring within 5 minutes!"

Be prepared for falling ruins; either avoid them or punch through them. Memorizing where ruins fall and sticking to Knuckles can significantly reduce your time. Light dash for all visible rings. When approaching fans, switch to Knuckles and don't wait right before touching the fan to avoid losing time.
