Learn strategies for Metal Madness and Team Dark, and how to defeat the final boss Metal Overlord in Sonic Heroes Part 38.
Metal Madness has new moves and more HP, along with an annoying defense system. The effectiveness of your attacks depends on the color of Metal Madness's sphere: Speed Formation is useless against blue, Flying Formation against yellow, and Power Formation against red. When the sphere is red, always use homing attacks. If it's blue or yellow, stick to Vector's rapid fireball attacks (stand still and press B repeatedly). Flying Formation attacks are generally less effective due to difficulty in landing single hits.
Metal Madness can also trap characters in ice blocks formed by missiles. If a character is standing where the ice lands, they become trapped and must be freed by another character. If all three characters are captured, you lose a life. You must hit Metal Madness 99 more times to defeat him.
Following this, you face Team Dark. While there are no new moves, there are many level-up spheres for Shadow and Omega to maximize their stats. To gain more power, use the cannons with different characters. To grab balloons in the sky, jump into the cannon as Omega, then shoot Shadow and Rouge out. Aim the cannon back at the regular platform and press B to exit safely. Team Blasts should be ready, capable of dealing massive damage. If you stop time when the sphere isn't red, Omega can continue attacking for significant damage. This should be one of the easier team fights.
Metal Madness transforms further and flies off. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles then combine, with Sonic transforming into Super Sonic, and Tails and Knuckles becoming spherical companions.
FINAL BOSS: Metal Overlord
Difficulty: Easy/Medium
You fight as Super Sonic, similar to Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, with Tails and Knuckles following in yellow spheres. The battle takes place high in the sky as you chase Metal Overlord. Like in previous Super Sonic fights, rings are crucial for energy; you start with fifty and lose one per second. Collect rings from balloons scattered in the sky by running into them.
Metal Overlord has five easy-to-avoid attacks:
- Metal Overlord sends waves of ice. Press B while moving forward to speed through and break the ice, as it will push Super Sonic back and cost time. You may need to press B multiple times.
- Metal Overlord sends out missiles. Switch to Tails and use Thunder Shoot on all missiles to destroy them, as being hit will cause you to lose time. A riskier, quicker method using only Sonic involves getting close to Metal Overlord, jumping, and pressing B for a Light Dash. This clears all projectiles but consumes rings. Only use this if you have 35+ rings, and even then, it might be best to avoid it.
- Metal Overlord takes a sudden dive. You will pass a huge ship. Switch to Knuckles and rapidly press B to perform an upgraded version of his level three attack, sending out continuous fireballs to destroy the ship.
- The fourth attack... (source text is cut off here)
- Maximize Shadow and Omega's levels with spheres before the Team Dark section.
- Use Team Blasts for significant damage when available.
- Conserve rings during the Super Sonic fight; use the Light Dash sparingly.
- Switch characters strategically to counter Metal Overlord's attacks.
