Compare SimCity NES and SNES disaster differences, including the Monster Disaster, Air Crash, Nuclear Meltdown, and Flood.

The Monster Disaster in SimCity on NES is visually distinct from the SNES version, resembling a monster rather than Bowser. It has been described as a cross between a Dimetrodon and the Terror Dogs from Ghostbusters, with a fin on its back and horns on its head.

The sprites for the Flood and Nuclear Meltdown disasters are difficult to discern because they are depicted in grey. In contrast, the SNES version shows flooding in blue and radiation in red.

Air Crash

In the NES prototype of SimCity, an Air Crash disaster only destroys a single square. However, because all buildings are demolished when one area is destroyed, this single square is as powerful as the five squares destroyed in the SNES version.

Nuclear Meltdown

The Nuclear Meltdown disaster in SimCity does not trigger a Dr. Wright message. It is currently unknown if a Dr. Wright message is programmed but not triggering, or if it was omitted entirely and would require addition. This disaster does, however, activate the GoTo button located beside the Options Menu (user interface), which will transport you to the Power Plant that has undergone a meltdown.
