Continue your Silent Hill: Downpour walkthrough in Part 27. Locate shadow sigils, find the Freedom Painting, and grab the Fishing Rod for side quests.
Alright, we're heading into Part 27 of our Silent Hill: Downpour journey. First things first, let's get you set up in the SHADOW PLAY house. Don't worry about monsters here; just head upstairs. You can grab a spare lighter on the desk if you need it. Once you're a bit further in, you'll get a new objective:
OBJECTIVE: Locate the shadow sigils on the map.
This is the official start of the 'Shadow Play' side-quest, though you've likely already stumbled upon parts of it. Keep an eye on the trinket stand by the stairs. Head over to the table and look at the map. Nearby, on a chair, you'll find the [SOUL-EYE TRINKET]. Grab it and place it on the stand. You can then use your UV light to spot a nearby shadow. If you need a forensic flashlight, there's one in the bathroom.
Now, this 'Shadow Play' quest is a bit of a back-and-forth affair, so we'll be tackling the full completion in Section 14. For now, just know you've found a key piece. After you're done in the house, head back outside.
Continue heading north. At the very end of the street, you'll find [BIRDCAGE 3/5]. Open it up to trigger a scene and advance the birdcage sidequest. To the left of the birdcage, be sure to check the boxes for the [FOUR TRINKET]. You can take this trinket to the nearby alley's trinket stand and place it – it's super close, so why not?
Now, let's talk about the street layout. Brite Street eventually turns into a bridge that leads to a dead end. To keep moving, you need to get to Rice Street. You can either take some stairs down to the street, ending up past the bridge, or take a ramp to your left (near where you started). Let's take the ramp to the left so we can travel under the bridge. This path will lead us to a cabinet on the left-hand side where you can grab a [FIRST AID KIT].
Just past the bridge, you'll spot a van with "P. Napier" on it. Definitely check this out! Go around to the back and open it up to find the [FREEDOM PAINTING] and a [SHOTGUN].
With that painting in hand, and assuming you've been following the guide, we can now fully complete the 'Art Collector' side quest. First, we need to head back to the ART GALLERY building. But before that, let's grab another important item. Cross the street and head east. About four houses down, in a gated area, you'll find a small space you can enter. Inside, there's a [FIRST AID KIT] in a cabinet to your right and a ladder to your left. Don't worry, this is the Pleasant River Subway entrance!
Head down the ladder and towards the sewer exit in front of you. On NORMAL difficulty, you should find a [FISHING ROD] here – exactly what the Homeless Guy wanted.
(-NOTE-) On HARD PUZZLE difficulty, the "Fishing Rod" is located out by the docks. From under the bridge on Rice St., head right, sticking to the left side of the road. Go past the house with the couples urn and then north up the alley past that. Turn right through the hole in the chain-link fence and search this small dock area for the fishing rod.
(-NOTE-) On EASY PUZZLE difficulty, the "Fishing Rod" is also by the docks. Once you take the alley towards the docks, it'll be right in front of you, resting by a barrel.
Now's the time to return the fishing rod to the Homeless Guy. Use that alleyway we mentioned earlier to get back to Chastain Heights, then take the subway to Pearl Creek and give it to him. Doing so will unlock the subway exits to Pleasant River and the Docks. You can either continue exploring Pleasant River or head back to the 'Art Collector' side quest now, since you have all the paintings and it's nearby.
(-NOTE-) You should unlock the 'Will Work For Food' bronze trophy around this time.
(-NOTE-) The Homeless Guy, Homer, might be lying down when you visit him next (it could be after loading into a new area and returning). Whether he's dead or just sleeping, he won't talk to you.
(-NOTE-) This next part is dedicated to 'The Art Collector' side quest. You don't have to do it, but it adds to the game length, offers a trophy, and is pretty fun! If you want to skip it, just search for "finished the 'Art Collector' side quest."
Okay, head back to the ART GALLERY (remember, southeast of the Pearl Creek subway, through the door in the alley?). Go back downstairs to where the paintings are displayed. Your objective for collecting paintings should update now:
OBJECTIVE COMPLETE: Find the missing paintings.
Now, you'll need to interact with the paintings to arrange them into a picture. Thankfully, you have a reference in your journal: the Silent Hill MAP. The lines on the paintings represent streets, so simply arrange them to match the map in your journal. To make it easier, find the painting with the large white building and place it in the LOWER LEFT corner. Then, put the painting with the 'X' above it, and the painting with the circle on it above that.
Once the map is complete, you might think you're done, but there's one more step. Notice the RED PAINTINGS on the pictures (they can be a little tricky to spot, but not too bad). You'll need to memorize these for the next part of our journey.
