_Rogue Galaxy_ is an action role-playing game developed by Level-5 and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It was originally released in Japan for the PlayStation 2 system in 2005 and localized for the West in 2007. The game was released in digital form for PlayStation 4 in 2016.

Level-5 earned a name for itself by developing _Dark Cloud_ and _Dark Cloud 2_ for PlayStation 2. Those action RPGs, developed and distributed with Sony's backing, met critical acclaim and enjoyed commercial success. Level-5 also brought us _Dragon Quest VIII, Dragon Quest IX, Professor Layton_ and the _Ni no Kuni_ games. _Dark Cloud_ fans have always begged for another sequel, but Level-5's relationship with Sony kept it from making a _Dark Cloud 3_. If you enjoyed playing the _Dark Cloud_ games, you should find a lot to like in _Rogue Galaxy_.

The title hero, Jaster Rogue, lives on the desert planet, Rosa. He dreams of traveling through space but the planet is under the oppressive control of the Longardian Federation and he can't leave. Through mistaken identity, he is recruited by a group of space pirates. He joins their crew in search of a legendary planet said to hold the mysteries of an advanced but vanished civilization, along with untold riches. The journey becomes a race against a mega-corporation with the same idea. There is more at stake than either group knows, and Jaster Rogue has a role in confronting a galactic threat.

Many of the things that made the _Dark Cloud_ games so fun to play found their way into _Rogue Galaxy_ as well. Graphics are a blend of anime and cel shading. _Dark Cloud_ composer, Tomohito Nishiura, returned to create the _Rogue Galaxy_ soundtrack with predictably enjoyable results, and the dialogue is provided by a cast of well-known and talented voice actors. _Rogue Galaxy_ adds more playable characters and gives you the means to develop them. The game places similar emphasis on upgrading weapons through synthesis. It also offers a lot of quality side content, including large optional areas to explore. Some of the same concepts found in _Dark Cloud's_ inventing and town building can be seen in the design and setup of assembly lines at _Rogue Galaxy's_ Factory. Instead of catching and racing fish, you collect and train miniatur
