A Comprehensive Walkthrough for Beginners

Embark on your Rocket League journey with our comprehensive beginner's guide. Learn about car bodies, customization, and essential gameplay tips to dominate the arena from day one.

Welcome to the exciting world of Rocket League! This guide is designed to help new players understand the basics of the game, focusing on the different car bodies available and how to customize them to your playstyle. Get ready to boost, flip, and score your way to victory!

Rocket League Car Bodies Explained

Rocket League features a variety of car bodies, also known as Battle-Cars, which are the primary means of player customization. While there are over 75 unique bodies, they are categorized by rarity and body type, influencing their hitbox and handling.

Base Rarity Vehicles

The game starts with ten standard car bodies classified as Base rarity. Four of these are available by default:

  • Octane
  • Breakout
  • Merc

The remaining six Base rarity cars are unlocked by completing matches:

  • Gizmo
  • Road Hog
  • X-Devil
  • Hotshot
  • Backfire
  • Paladin
  • Venom
  • Dominus

Console Exclusive Vehicles

Certain console versions of Rocket League offer exclusive Battle-Cars:

  • PlayStation 4: Sweet Tooth (unlocked by playing one match with every common body)
  • Xbox One: Hogsticker (unlocked by playing one match with every common body) and Armadillo (unlocked by completing a season in single-player Season Mode)
  • Nintendo Switch: Mario NSR (default, orange team only), Luigi NSR (default, blue team only), and Samus' Gunship (unlocked by completing matches)

Very Rare Vehicles

As of Patch v1.81, several vehicle bodies are classified as Very Rare and can be obtained from Drops:

  • Aftershock
  • Esper
  • Grog
  • Marauder

If you played Rocket League before the Free To Play update, you might have these as Legacy quality. Even with the Legacy version, obtaining a duplicate will classify it as Very Rare.

Getting Started with Customization

Customizing your Battle-Car is a core part of the Rocket League experience. You can change the car body, apply decals, paint jobs, rocket boosts, wheels, and toppers to create a unique look. Experiment with different combinations to find what suits your style both visually and in terms of gameplay feel.
