How to get Lucario and its Mega Evolution

Learn how to find Riolu, evolve it into Lucario by increasing friendship during the day, and obtain the Lucarionite Mega Stone in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

First, you need to obtain a Riolu. You can find wild Riolu on rooftops in Bleu Sector 5, Jaune District, Magenta District, Rouge Sector 4, and Vert Sector 8 with a low chance. Alternatively, complete Side Mission 024 by trading an Abra to a school child for a Riolu. If you don't see one, adjust the time to daytime and wait for sunny conditions. A Lucario can also be found in Wild Zone 20, which unlocks later in the game, around level 40-50.

To evolve Riolu into Lucario, it must have a high Friendship level and be leveled up or evolved during the daytime. It will not evolve at night. You can increase Friendship by keeping Riolu as your active Pokémon, using it in battles, giving it Vitamins or Protein, or buying meals from a cafe and sitting with your Pokémon. Giving Riolu a Soothe Bell (obtained from Side Missions) can speed up the process. Once Riolu's Friendship is high enough and it's daytime, a glowing white arrow will appear next to its icon in the party menu. Select Riolu and choose "Evolve" to evolve it into Lucario.

Lucario can Mega Evolve by obtaining the Lucarionite Mega Stone. You can purchase the Lucarionite from Quasartico Inc. for 240 Mega Shards after completing Main Mission 10. Mega Shards are collected by destroying purple crystal clusters scattered around Lumiose City. Mega Lucario becomes a Fighting/Steel-type Pokémon, gaining significant buffs to Attack, Special Attack, Defense, and Speed.

• Weak to: Fire, Fighting, and Ground-type moves (2x damage)
• Resists: Normal, Rock, Bug, Steel, Grass, Ice, Dragon, and Dark-type moves (0.5x damage)
• Double Resists: Poison-type moves (0.25x damage)
• Immune to: Poison status conditions

Recommended TMs for Mega Lucario:

• Physical Attacking: Close Combat, Earthquake, Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, Crunch
• Special Attacking: Focus Blast, Vacuum Wave
• Support: Swords Dance, Bulk Up, Nasty Plot

It is recommended to use Bulk Up to boost Lucario's defenses. Avoid using Lucario against Fire, Ground, or other Fighting-type Pokémon due to its weaknesses.
