What are Shadow Pokémon?

Basically, these are Pokémon that have had their hearts artificially closed off by the evil syndicate, Cipher. They're super powerful but also unstable, sometimes even attacking their own trainers! Your mission is to snag them all and purify them, opening their hearts back up. It's a tough job, but totally worth it.

How Snagging Works:

You'll get a special Snag Machine that turns regular Poké Balls into Snag Balls. This lets you steal Pokémon from other trainers during battle. It's illegal, but hey, you're the hero here!

Shadow Pokémon Moves and Hyper Mode:

Shadow Pokémon only know one move: Shadow Rush. It's a powerful typeless attack, but it does recoil damage to your Pokémon. They also have a 'Heart Gauge' instead of EXP. You need to empty this gauge by battling with them, keeping them in your party, or using Scents. Sometimes, they'll go into 'Hyper Mode,' making them stronger but harder to control and unable to use items. You can snap them out of it by calling their name.

Purifying Shadow Pokémon:

As you lower the Heart Gauge, your Shadow Pokémon will start remembering their regular moves. Their nature is revealed at 40% purification. Once the Heart Gauge is empty (99% purified), you need to take them to the Relic Stone in Agate Village to make them fully purified (100%). This makes them forget Shadow Rush, learn a new powerful move, regain all their built-up EXP and EVs, and earn a Ribbon. After this, you can even transfer them to your Ruby/Sapphire/FireRed/LeafGreen games!
