Gran Turismo 2 transmission upgrades: Sports, Semi-racing, and Full-racing. Learn about gear ratios and optimal engine types.

Sports Transmission

This upgrade replaces your normal transmission with one featuring closer gear ratios in all five gears. It helps prevent engine revolutions (revs) from dropping below the powerband when upshifting and allows for smoother downshifts, ensuring useful power across various turns. It is recommended for non-supercharged engines.

Semi-racing Transmission

These gear ratios are even closer than those of the Sports Close-Ratio Transmission. This gearbox is ideal for highly-tuned cars with a narrow powerband. Be aware that upshifting and downshifting will become more frequent. Due to potential time loss during shifting, this transmission may be counterproductive in cars with high-torque, wide-powerband engines.

Full-racing Transmission

This transmission is for races that permit the replacement of all gears, including the final drive gear. This upgrade also makes it possible to fine-tune the gear ratios according to vehicle specifications and circuit features.

Tips
  • Consider your engine's powerband and torque when choosing between the Sports and Semi-racing transmissions.
  • The Full-racing transmission offers the most customization for specific tracks and car builds.
