Gears of War Part 25 walkthrough: Strategies for the Entrenched (A46) section, including the APC escape on Insane.
Walkthrough
- 1In the room where you kicked the door open, turn around and head up the first set of stairs.
- 2Take cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) behind the first pillar on your left and wait for a grenade to blow open the gate.
- 3When Locusts come through, snipe or Lancer them. Use a shotgun if they get too close, or retreat to the water and take cover if desperate.
- 4Wait for Locusts to approach or peek from cover; avoid their one-hit kill punches on Insane difficulty.
- 5Explore the basement to find any remaining Locusts, as one may stay at its spawn point.
- 6After the cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically) following the door opening, head back upstairs.
- 7In the hallway, watch out for two Wretches.
- 8Take either path back, picking up any respawned Longshot ammo if needed, and eliminate the Locusts at the door.
- 9Head upstairs for a Wretch fight.
- 10To make the Wretch fight easier, go back to the room with the wheel used to open the basement gate.
- 11Stand at the door and use your Gnasher shotgun to eliminate Wretches emerging from four holes in the room where you chainsawed the desk for the Cog Tag.
- 12Once all Wretches are dead, the Locust guarding the door will open it. Snipe or use the Gnasher/Chainsaw on him.
- 13Proceed through the hallways without surprises until you reach the main hall.
- 14Head upstairs and to the right, towards Dom and Cole.
- 15Snipe any outside Locusts if desired. An invincible Boomer will appear and blow the door open.
- 16If using the Lancer on Casual: Take cover next to the door (not the one that was blown open) and use your shotgun or Lancer. Retreat if necessary.
- 17If using the Lancer on Hardcore or Insane: Stay upstairs and pick off enemies from mid-distance, or take cover on the staircase pillars and shotgun them if they get close.
- 18If using the Longshot on any difficulty: Take cover upstairs on a pillar or rafters and snipe enemies as they come through. Plenty of ammo is available upstairs, but watch out for Theron Guards.
- 19If the Boomer is the last enemy, avoid using the shotgun due to close quarters. Lancer or snipe it before killing all other Grubs.
- 20When you receive a radio transmission from Baird about more Locusts, load up on ammo and head downstairs.
- 21A Locust will break open another door; eliminate it, preferably with the Chainsaw.
- 22Go to the back of the house and try the locked door.
- 23Head upstairs, dodge debris, and kick open the door at the end of the hallway.
- 24Take cover behind a window and snipe enemies, or throw a grenade into the Emergence hole.
- 25After clearing the enemies, shoot the planks holding the door below shut with your pistol.
- 26Pick up ammo and return to the door, which should now be open.
- 27Take cover and snipe the Locust with a magnum that enters.
- 28Head inside the door the Locust emerged from.
- 29On Casual or Hardcore: You have thirty seconds to reach the APC. The timer starts when the Emergence hole appears or one of the two Boomers is defeated. Run through either door and make a direct run for the APC. You can reach it before the Emergence hole appears.
- 30On Insane: This section requires luck and skill. Head right and take cover. Sacrifice yourself once to estimate the Longshots needed to kill a Boomer.
- 31Repeat the Boomer encounter, using one less bullet than estimated.
- 32Get close to the halfway mark that triggers the Emergence hole and shotgun the Boomer.
- 33Run along the cover on the right side towards the APC, which may require luck.
- 34After reaching the APC and watching the cutscene, the rest of the level can be completed using the Longshot strategy.
Tips
- On Insane difficulty, one-hit kill punches from Locusts are a significant threat.
- If you need Longshot ammo, check the hallways where previous Locusts may have hidden.
- When facing the Boomer, consider Lancer or sniping it in close quarters rather than using a shotgun.
- For the APC escape on Casual or Hardcore, a direct, fast run is the most effective strategy.
- On Insane, sacrificing yourself once to gauge Boomer health with the Longshot can be beneficial.
- The Longshot strategy is generally effective for the remainder of the level, even on Insane.
