Master Part 23 of Gears of War with our comprehensive guide. Learn strategies for the Berserker boss, enemy encounters, and collectible locations to ensure your success.
Walkthrough
- 1Head down the staircase, pick up ammo, and shoot the propane tanks in the back of the truck to proceed.
- 2From the start of "Bad To Worse (A43)", look for Cog Tags (CT26) near the corner of the building.
- 3Make two left turns and approach the doors. You'll need Marcus to call Jack to open them.
- 4Choose one of two options to deal with the enemies at the doors: either take cover and snipe enemies while shotgunning Wretches, or use a grenade near the Cog Tags to plug the Locust hole, then be ready with a shotgun for any enemies that climb up.
- 5After the Locust hole is sealed, two Boomers will appear. Use the Hammer of Dawn to defeat them.
- 6Retrieve the weapon you switched out for the Hammer of Dawn, as you won't find another Longshot until the end of the chapter.
- 7Enter the now-open door and proceed through the building until you reach a greenhouse-like area.
- 8As you exit the greenhouse, a Berserker will appear. Dodge its attacks and head through the door it emerged from.
- 9Continue down the hallway to the next greenhouse area. You can try to lure the Berserker to knock down a tree in its path.
- 10Head towards the middle of the area and up. At a bloodstain, you'll find the Hammer of Dawn.
- 11To use the Hammer of Dawn, you must first destroy the glass ceiling. Lure the Berserker to run into the green pillars to knock them down.
- 12Once the pillars are down, use the Hammer of Dawn on the Berserker when it's stunned after attacking or hitting something. Repeat this process three times on Insane difficulty.
- 13After defeating the Berserker, head up the middle to find a valve. Turn it to extinguish a fire blocking a hole in the wall.
- 14Proceed through the hole.
- 15In "Hazing (A44)", head left to find a doorway. Proceed down the hallway.
- 16If you have the Hammer of Dawn, use it on the Troika turret. Otherwise, try to snipe it quickly or use grenades.
- 17After the Troika is destroyed, an Emergence hole will appear. Plug it if possible, or position yourself opposite it with a shotgun ready.
- 18Kill any emerging Locusts and Wretches.
- 19Hop over the low wall in the doorway on the right side. The Hammer of Dawn will be unavailable.
- 20Head left from where you exit the hallway and find a Lancer.
- 21Take cover behind a flower box and engage long-range targets with the Lancer or sniper, and close-range targets with a shotgun.
- 22Advance to the bench at the far end where a Locust frequently takes cover.
- 23Fall back to the bench and snipe enemies that appear on the other side until a Boomer appears.
Tips
- Insane Difficulty: On Insane, the right path is generally easier. The Troika can be dealt with quickly using a Torque Bow if you have one. Torque Bow Boomers early on for easy kills if you can't snipe them. Look for Torque Bows near the Sniper's nook or from Theron Guards. The Longshot is useful throughout this section.
- Berserker Strategy: The Berserker is manageable. The main challenge is using the Hammer of Dawn effectively. Luring it into pillars is key. On Insane, it takes three Hammer of Dawn bursts. You can try to get close when the beam falters and switch to a shotgun for extra damage, but it's not recommended due to ammo waste.
- Early Encounters: Rushing to the Locust hole early can prevent enemies from spawning. Use the Hammer of Dawn on Boomers.
- Troika: Prioritize taking out the Troika turret, even if it means using grenades.
- Hammer of Dawn Use: The Hammer of Dawn is crucial for the Boomers and the Troika. Remember to switch back to your Longshot after using it on the Boomers.
- Cog Tags (CT26)
