Guide to Chapter 11: Haunted in Final Fantasy VII Remake. Includes walkthrough steps, item locations like the Mythril Rod and HP Up Materia, and boss strategies.
Important Points to Keep in Mind
- You're going to pick up one more Music Disc and 2 weapons in this Chapter. However, as I warned you earlier, to get one of those weapons, you must have Steal Materia. If you miss it now, you can pick it up later, but, as is often the case in life, earlier is better.
- Although with rare exceptions this Chapter is fairly linear, the multiple ladders and stairs make it difficult to navigate using your map alone. So, I will again break with tradition and give detailed instructions for getting through this area. However, I would encourage you to try to navigate on your own without my help. To make sure that you don't miss any essential items, I will use bold red font to emphasize crucial steps that lead you to these 4 items.
- 1Objective: A Train Wreck
- After descending to the ground, you will head North through one train car and East into an open area.
- Before climbing the ladder to the N, continue East through another train car and into an open area just North of the resting bench. Go all the way South to find a purple Chest containing a Mythril Rod for Aerith.- Aerith's Mythril Rod and the Ray of Judgment Ability
The Mythril Rod provides the highest Magic Attack bonus of any of Aerith's weapons and therefore matches her strengths beautifully. Materia slots get upgraded early, which is always a plus. Although it lacks some important upgrade abilities of the Silver Staff, for raw Magic power no other weapon even comes close.
The Mythril Rod's Weapon Ability is Ray of Judgement. This ability requires a full 2 ATB bars, but it is Aerith's best offensive attack that does not require MP. Aerith's weapon unleashes a beam that can hit an enemy 10 times for significant damage, and it is the only ability other than Tifa's True Strike and Triangle attacks that will actually increase Stagger percent.
Aside from the large ATB cost, the down side of this attack is that it doesn't follow enemies, meaning that a mobile enemy can simply move out of the way and dodge the brunt of the attack. Thus, this is a good ability to use against a Staggered foe who would be unable to avoid it. If used as soon as possible after Stagger, other attackers can benefit from the increased Stagger percent that it produces.
Using Ray of Judgment on a Staggered enemy also earns the Proficiency Bonus.
- Aerith's Mythril Rod and the Ray of Judgment Ability
- 2The Mythril Rod comes with 3 Materia slots, but none of them are paired. It is suggested to manually spend 20 AP to buy the 2 "New Materia Slot" skills in the first Core of this weapon. The first will add a slot, and the second will join 2 slots. Now Aerith can continue to use the Magnify-Healing combination.
- 3Objective -- Pass Through the Maintenance Facility
- Head towards the marker at the N end. When your path becomes blocked, head back towards the door at the S end. That door will shut but another one to the W will open, so follow that path.
- Continue W and climb the stairs.
- Once you are upstairs, you will be invited to enter a door to the NW, but unfortunately it is locked.
- Take the path to the E instead. You will find a door and some stairs that go down.
- Go downstairs first to fight a battle and claim a treasure.
- Then head back upstairs and through the door.
- Pass through the room to the next area and enter an unlocked door to the NW.
- This room has exits to the N and the S. Go S first.
- This room has exits to the S and the E. The S exit is the locked door that you encountered earlier, so unlock it but then go back into the room and take the E exit to claim a treasure.
- Return to the room to the W, then head N and then N again to the NW corner of the Facility.
- Here you will find stairs going up, stairs going down, and a new path to the E. The stairs that go up will take you to a locked door that you cannot open yet, and the path to the E is a dead end. Your only choice is to go down the stairs.
- Downstairs you will find a ladder. Climb it, and it will take you to an overhead path to the NE part of the Facility. Descend the ladder on the E side of that path and climb the nearby stairs to a recovery bench and vending machine. Here you can buy Music Disc #6, bringing your count up to 21.
- Enter the door and interact with the console. This will initiate a battle with a Ghoul.- Objective: Shadow in the Control Room
- Boss Fight -- Ghoul
- Ghoul annoys you by being difficult to access, due to all the clutter in the room, but he also switches between 2 forms:
- When he is blue, he is in his physical form and is immune to Magic.
- When he is red, he is in his ghostly form and is immune to physical attacks.
- Ghoul always begins in his physical form. Every time he uses Incorporeality, he will change forms.
- Start by having Cloud and Tifa pound on him. As soon as he changes
