Follow this guide to defeat the boss Garuda in Saronia Castle and collect all the valuable treasure chests containing powerful items and equipment in Final Fantasy III.
Walkthrough
- 1Defeat Garuda: The boss has 10,000 HP and uses a physical attack and a party-wide Lightning/Thunder attack. The best strategy is to use the Dragoon's Jump ability, especially with Wind Spears, which can deal around 2,500-3,000 damage per hit. Alternatively, use the Aero spell or the Dark Knight's Souleater with the Blood and Royal Swords for around 800 damage. A Bard with the Loki Harp can also boost damage by 20-25% per use.
- 2Loot East-Central Chests: After the boss fight and cutscenes, head through the east-central wall and follow the path to find a dozen treasure chests containing an Ice Rod, a Tome of Fire, a Tome of Ice, a Tome of Light, a Golem Staff, a Medusa Arrow, a Rusty Mail, a Main Gauche, a Scholar Hat, a Selene Bow, a Boomerang, and a Dragon Hammer.
- 3Loot Hidden East Side Chests: Go down the nearby stairs. In the next area, head south into a large room. Follow the hidden path on the east side to find six more chests containing another Rusty Mail, a Viking Helm, Viking Mail, a Dragon Helm, a Gaia Vest, and an Earthen Bell.
- 4Loot Linear Path Chests: Go to the western building in the castle courtyard. Enter the hidden passage to the east. In the next area, go west, through the wall, north, east, south, and west to the next area. Continue along the linear path to find two Phoenix Downs.
- 5Upgrade Ship: Back in the castle courtyard, enter the eastern building and speak with the four men to upgrade your ship to the Nautilus.
- 6Visit Shops: Leave the castle and consider visiting the shops in the four Saronian towns, which have now been unlocked.
Tips
- Ensure your Dragoons are at Job Level 10 or higher for maximum damage with Jump.
- Consider bringing a Bard with the Loki Harp to further boost your party's attack power.
- If Dragoons are not viable, the Aero spell or Dark Knight's Souleater are good alternatives.
- Grinding at Dragon Spire before the Garuda fight can be beneficial for Job Leveling.
