Your step-by-step guide to conquering Nepto Temple in Final Fantasy III. Learn how to find key items, defeat the Giant Rat boss, and progress through this dungeon.

Alright, so you've made it to Nepto Temple, and yeah, it's basically a fetch quest. Your main goal here is to find a missing jeweled eye for a dragon statue you'll find right when you enter. Let's get this done!

Walkthrough
  1. 1
As soon as you enter Nepto Temple, head north and check out the dragon statue. You'll notice it's missing its eye. Time to go find it!
  2. 2
You'll need to be Minimized to progress, just like in Tozus. Because of this, your physical attack power will be super low. I highly recommend bringing four Mages, or at least four Red Mages, to take advantage of magic. Poison Bats are weak to Aero, but honestly, don't count on exploiting weaknesses for any other enemies here. Just stick to magic.
  3. 3
Follow the path until you reach a room with two holes in the floor. Take the western hole first.
  4. 4
Down this hole, you'll find two chests. Open them up to get the Shell Armor and Shell Helm. These are actually better than the Mythril gear, so equip them!
  5. 5
Now, backtrack to the room with the two holes and take the eastern hole this time.
  6. 6
Keep moving along the path. You'll find a Serpent Sword in a northern alcove. Grab it, then head south and east to find another hole.
  7. 7
Jump down and continue east and north in the next area. You'll eventually run into a Giant Rat.

Boss: Giant Rat

This guy's HP is 900, and he'll give you 1,200 EXP and 1,500 Gil when you beat him.

Strategy:

  • The Giant Rat isn't too tough. Its attacks are only slightly stronger than the regular enemies you've been fighting.
  • Since you're still Minimized, physical attacks won't be very effective. Rely on your magic!
  • If you have the "-ra" level spells (like Firera, Aerora, etc.), have each party member cast one. You should be able to defeat it in just one or two turns.
  • Keep your party healed with Cure spells if anyone takes too much damage.
Tips
  • Remember to keep using magic throughout the dungeon, as you'll remain Minimized for a good portion of it.
  • Don't forget to grab the Serpent Sword and the Shell Armor/Helm – they're solid upgrades.
