Cave of Tides

Your step-by-step guide to navigating the Cave of Tides in Final Fantasy III. Learn enemy weaknesses, find treasure, and defeat the boss Kraken!

Alright, so you've made it to the Cave of Tides! It's not too complicated, but there are a couple of spots where you might get turned around. Stick with me, and we'll get through it.

First things first, just follow the path until you reach the end. Aria will help you out and open the way forward. Keep pushing on!

This next bit is pretty straightforward. You'll eventually come to a fork in the path. You can go north or east from the northeastern corner of the room. For now, take the north path. Keep going along it for a good while, and you'll find a chest containing the Blizzaga spell. Nice find! Now, head back to that fork.

Once you're back at the fork, take the other path, the one heading east. You'll eventually hit another fork. This time, one path is wide and goes east, but you want to take the narrow path heading north. Follow that narrow path, and you'll move on to the next area.

You're almost there! This watery section is the last part of the dungeon. Just keep following the path until you reach the very end.

After a bit of a scene with the Water Crystal, get ready for a boss fight! You'll be facing off against Kraken.

Boss: Kraken

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Level: 24
• Max HP: 8,000
• EXP Earned: 5,280
• Gil Earned: 5,500

Kraken hits hard with physical attacks, can cast Blizzara on your whole party, and also uses a Blind spell. If you've been equipping Ice-based gear, you'll want to switch it out immediately, because Blizzara can be devastating. For the Blind spell, it's a good idea to have some Blindna items or Eye Drops on hand to cure it.

Strategy:

• This fight is actually pretty simple if you've been saving up your Zeus's Wrath items.
• If you have Scholars in your party, especially ones who have been grinding a bit, they can double the potency of Zeus's Wrath when used as an item.
• Go ahead and use all those Wraths you've been hoarding! It's the easiest way to take Kraken down.

After you defeat Kraken, you'll get to see some more cutscenes. Aria will give you the power of the Water Crystal, but sadly, she'll pass away. It's a sad moment, but it means you're progressing!

With the Water Crystal's power secured, you'll unlock some new jobs: Viking, Dragoon, Dark Knight, Evoker, and Bard. Take some time to check them out!
