Guide to Bench Location #1 in Dead Space 2. Learn how to upgrade weapons, find schematics, and navigate through combat encounters and locked rooms.
The work bench allows you to upgrade your equipment using power nodes. While upgrade choices are personal, be aware that upgrade diagrams often have empty spaces, so plan your upgrades accordingly. For example, the plasma cutter can be upgraded for Damage, Capacity, and Reload Speed using four power nodes.
After using the bench, exit through the nearby door. As you approach the escalator, it will activate, bringing a necromorph. Defeat it, collect its loot and a health pack. Move up the left side, ignoring the escalator, to see Tiedemann on some TVs. You can also break nearby boxes for loot.
To your left, you'll find a stasis module. If desired, use the adjacent save station. Further left is a power lock. These locked rooms, found throughout the game, can be opened with a power node and usually contain valuable items.
Unlocking this room reveals a text log ("Quarterly Report"), a Ruby Semiconductor (worth 10,000 Credits), and a [Power Node Schematic]. You'll also find ammo and health supplies.
Note on Schematics: Finding a schematic makes the associated item or weapon available for purchase at any store. For instance, finding the Power Node Schematic will allow you to buy Power Nodes at the last store.
You can return to the last store to sell the Ruby Semiconductor and purchase another Power Node. When ready, proceed through the "Titan Heights" door.
Upon entering, you'll face necromorphs. Kill the one in front of you and grab the power node to your left. You cannot help the residents in the background at this time. More necromorphs may appear if you linger in this area. Enter the elevator to continue.
After the elevator ride, Patient 5 will speak to you about memory-altering drugs. A new necromorph, a crawler, will interrupt. Shoot it once to stun it, then stomp it to death. Patient 5 will depart; continue down the hallway to the right and stomp a box for items.
Past the next door, you'll see fleeing civilians. Approaching them will cause a necromorph to emerge from the door on the left. Defeat it. Check the apartment on the left for credits, but be prepared for a crawler emerging from the bathroom. After killing it, another necromorph will appear outside; eliminate it as well. Continue into the laundry area and collect the loot.
As you head for the exit, the lights will go out, indicating a wait for power restoration. Prepare for a necromorph ambush. Initially, one necromorph will drop near the locked door; defeat it. A spitter will then appear near the machines; kill it quickly. Shortly after, a crawler and another necromorph will drop by the door. Stomp the crawler and then dismember the necromorph before stomping it. Reload and be ready for another necromorph. After surviving the assault, power will be restored.
Enter the Terrace and proceed through the left door into apartments. A man will shout at you to stay away. Break a box here for items (this is where the "Romper Stomper" trophy can be found). Continue down the hallway to find health on your right and a text log ("Titan Part I") in the back, which explains planet-cracking. Enter the elevator to speak with Daina, learning more about Tiedemann and the marker.
Save at the adjacent save station if desired. You will hear a baby crying. Check the apartment on the left for an item and continue. You will witness a woman die through bars on the right. Further ahead, a necromorph will emerge from a door on the left; defeat it and stomp a nearby box for items. Enter the transit station.
Outside, a creature will scuttle up a window, followed by a ship explosion. One of the corpses on the ground will rise; shoot it back down. A crawler will also appear. Gather nearby items and proceed. A Gold Semiconductor can be found on the left side of this area (use telekinesis to retrieve it).
Ahead on the left is another Conduit room. Here you can find an audio log ("Hampered"), a [Hacker Suit Schematic], and other items. The power will shut off, requiring you to defend yourself to restore it.
This encounter is less difficult than the previous one. Exit the Conduit room to face exploder necromorphs. These enemies have a visible weak spot on one arm and act as walking explosives. Shoot the large yellow spot to detonate them. Three will attack from the escalator area, and one will break through a vent near your exit door. After defeating the first three, move past the escalator to confront the last one.
Once all exploders are dead, power will be restored. Collect any loot and proceed through the doors.
