UNDERGROUND CAVERNS

Navigate the treacherous Underground Caverns in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. Learn about the Jewel of Open, Scylla, the Ferryman, and finding the Holy Symbol.

Alright, let's talk about the Underground Caverns. It's a pretty melancholic spot, with icy walls and small rivers, plus a big waterfall. You'll see stalactites and stalagmites glowing purple in the distance. To get here, you'll need to find an opening in the floor in the Marble Gallery. You have to step on a switch nearby after you've grabbed the Jewel of Open. Once you're in, there are two main paths down: a long drop to the right, or a basement section to the left. To the right of the long drop, you can fight an optional boss, Scylla. If you go below her area, you'll find a frozen floor that breaks, leading to an icy cavern with a waterway. This water is dangerous at first and too wide to cross. Don't worry, later on, you'll get the Merman Statue. This will make the Ferryman show up, and he can take you across. This path eventually leads to the Holy Symbol relic, which stops the water from hurting you. Over to the left of Scylla's area, there are some small underground lakes. You'll see a wooden floor that an exploding barrel from an Skeleton Ape can destroy. This leads to a hidden passage to the Abandoned Pit to the Catacomb. There's also a big waterfall to the left. Once you get the Form of Bat, you can fly to the room across from the top of the waterfall. This will make the Skeleton Ape appear, and he's the one you need to break that wooden floor. At the bottom of the waterfall and to the left, there's another frozen cavern that leads to a watery area. The Ferryman will guide you through this underground river, taking you to a spot where you can find the Merman Statue. He'll also take you to an area that loops back to the Entrance level, near where the Mermen hang out. Just a heads-up, the counterpart to this area in the Reverse Castle is called the Reverse Caverns. When you first meet the Ferryman in the Underground Caverns, he'll offer to take you somewhere interesting. Depending on the version you're playing, his dialogue might be slightly different, but the gist is he's offering a ride across the river.
