Gourd Upgrade System Explained

Learn how to upgrade your Gourd in Black Myth: Wukong! Discover how to increase uses and healing potency with Shen Monkey, Luojia Fragment Vines, and Awaken Wine Worms.

Hey there! So, you're finding the fights in Black Myth: Wukong a bit tough, huh? Maybe your gear's defense is a bit low, and your Gourd isn't healing as much or as often as you'd like. Don't sweat it! There's a way to boost both your Gourd's healing power and how many times you can use it. You'll need to find an NPC called Shen Monkey.

You can track down Shen Monkey by following the path from the Marsh of White Mist Shrine. He's pretty much at the end of Chapter 1. Once you find him, you can increase the number of Gourd uses by upgrading it with Luojia Fragment Vines. To make your Gourd heal more effectively, you'll need Awaken Wine Worms. Both of these items are scattered throughout the world, but they can be tricky to find, so make sure you explore every nook and cranny!

After you've upgraded your Gourd, you can further customize its effectiveness through the Drink and Soak System. Head over to the 'Brew' tab. Here, you can swap out your currently equipped drink or add special 'Soaks' to your Gourd. These Soaks can give you temporary buffs, like the 'Goat Skull' which moderately increases your maximum health for a short time. You can find these Soaks while exploring and defeating enemies, or even buy some directly from Shen Monkey himself. The cool part is, if you find a great soak or drink while you're out adventuring, you can add it to your Gourd without needing to visit Shen Monkey. The 'Brew' option becomes available at any of the shrines you discover.
