Dive deep into the World of Warcraft Hunter class! This comprehensive guide covers everything from abilities and talents to pets, stats, and gear.
Hey there! So you're looking to get into the Hunter class in World of Warcraft? Awesome choice! Hunters are super versatile – you can deal damage from a distance, have a whole army of pets at your beck and call, and you've got a ton of tricks up your sleeve to keep yourself and your allies alive. That said, it's also one of the more complex classes, so don't expect to master it overnight. There's a lot more to it than just pointing and shooting!
This guide is here to break it all down for you. We'll be diving into pretty much every aspect of the Hunter class, explaining things like how to best use your Focus resource, when to use your various abilities, which pets and glyphs are top-notch, and what talents will really make you shine. A lot of what you'll read comes from my own experiences, plus research and advice from the wider Hunter community. While I've tried to be as accurate as possible, I'm always open to feedback, so feel free to shoot me an email if you spot something that seems off.
You'll also notice I use a few abbreviations throughout the guide. Here's a quick rundown:
| ABBREVIATION | DEFINITION |
| BM-Hunter | Beast Mastery Hunter |
| MM-Hunter | Marksmanship Hunter |
| SV-Hunter | Survival Hunter |
| RAP | Ranged Attack Power |
| AP | Attack Power |
| Crit | Critical Strike |
| GCD | Global Cooldown |
| T11, T12, T13 | Tier 11, 12, 13 |
| T11+, T12+, T13+ | Tier 11, 12, 13 (Heroic) |
| DW | Dual Wield |
| 2H, 1H | Two-Handed, One-Handed |
| DOT, HOT | Damage Over Time, Heal Over Time |
| AOE | Area of Effect |
Just a heads-up, I'm mostly focused on PvE (Player vs. Environment) content, so a lot of the talent builds, ability rotations, and strategies you'll find here will be geared towards running dungeons and raids.
Alright, let's get started with the basics! Choosing your race is the first big step in building your character. As a Hunter, you've got eleven different races to pick from, each with its own unique passive and active abilities that can give you a little edge. Let's take a look at what each one brings to the table.
First up, we have Humans. Their racial 'Every Man For Himself' is fantastic for breaking free from roots, snares, and stuns, which can be a lifesaver in sticky situations. Plus, their 'Diplomacy' passive gives you a 10% boost to reputation gains, meaning you'll unlock faction rewards that much faster. They also get bonuses with Maces and Swords, and a small Spirit increase.
| RACIAL ABILITIES | DESCRIPTION |
| Every Man For Himself | Instant cast. 3 min cooldown. Removes all movement impairing effects and all effects which cause loss of control of your character. This effect shares a cooldown with other similar effects. |
| Diplomacy | Passive. Reputation gains increased by 10%. |
| Mace Specialization | Passive. Expertise with Maces and Two-Handed Maces increased by 3. |
| Sword Specialization | Passive. Expertise with Swords and Two-Handed Swords increased by 3. |
| The Human Spirit | Passive. Spirit increased by 3%. |
Next, we have Dwarves. Their 'Gun Specialization' is a direct benefit for Hunters, and 'Stoneform' is incredibly useful for removing nasty poisons, diseases, and bleeds, while also giving you a temporary armor boost. If you're into Archaeology, their 'Explorer' racial makes surveying faster.
| RACIAL ABILITIES | DESCRIPTION |
| Stoneform | Instant cast. 2 min cooldown. Removes all poison, disease and bleed effects and increases your armor by 10% for 8 sec. |
| Explorer | Passive. Archaeology skill increased by 15 and you survey faster than normal archaeologists. |
| Frost Resistance | Passive. Reduces the chance |
