Guide to leveling in World of Warcraft's Azeroth zones, covering levels 1-58 and Death Knight unlock.

Alliance: If you are not playing a Rogue or Warlock, you can feel free to level in the Draenei zones. Rogues can go to Darnassus every other level.

Horde: The Blood Elf zone is likely more focused than other Horde areas.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Levels 1-6: All quests are completed in your starting area.
  2. 2
Levels 6-20: All races have two second zones. At this point, you can mix and match by going to the next zone of another race's city zone.
  3. 3
Levels 20-30: You will finish in your second zone of choice, then likely start in one of the many "contested territories" shared by Horde and Alliance.
  4. 4
Levels 30-40: Focus on Stranglethorn Vale and the areas below it. Arathi and its neighbors are also good options.
  5. 5
Levels 40-50: Finish quests in Stranglethorn Vale, then move to Searing Gorge or areas near Tanaris.
  6. 6
Levels 50-55: Prioritize Tanaris, some Azshara quests, Un'Goro Crater, or potentially Searing Gorge. Felwood and Burning Steppes are also options. You may now create a Death Knight.
  7. 7
Levels 55-58: Complete quests in Winterspring and Felwood for the Timbermaw, quests in Alterac Valley (gaining experience from rounds played), some easy quests in Western Plaguelands, and potentially finish in Eastern Plaguelands or with more Alterac Valley matches.
Tips
  • Some quests in Azeroth can be traps and time-wasters, leading to unnecessary travel.
  • Consider mixing zone progression between races after level 6.
