The expansion was officially announced at Gamescom on August 19th, 2025. The narrative continues the Worldsoul Saga, with the subsequent expansion being World of Warcraft: The Last Titan.

In Midnight, players are tasked with defending Quel'thalas against Xal'atath and the Void invasion. Key features include the Voidspire Citadel raid, 8 new Mythic+ dungeons, and an increased level cap to 90. The first season will also introduce new Arena seasons and an updated PvP reward system.

The official announcement highlights that players will embark on an epic journey as the Void threatens Azeroth, with Xal'atath, the Harbinger, posing the greatest threat.
