Section 2: Opening Notes Regarding This FAQ
Welcome to Thief: The Dark Project! This guide provides opening notes for the FAQ, focusing on expert level play and maximum treasure collection. Learn about the FAQ's scope and author's approach.
Hey there! Welcome to my first attempt at a FAQ/Walkthrough for Thief: The Dark Project. I'm really hoping you'll find this helpful, and I'd love to hear what you think – what you liked, and how I can make it even better. Feel free to shoot any comments, suggestions, or anything else to brigadier@sprint.ca.
Just a heads-up, this FAQ doesn't cover the entire game right now. My plan is to keep adding to it if folks seem to like it and want more. The catch is, I'm a university student, and my finals are looming in about 10 days. I've personally only managed to finish the first five missions completely, so you might have to be a little patient for the later parts. Sorry about that! :-(
What makes this FAQ a bit different from others you might see is that it's really geared towards helping you snag the maximum amount of treasure in each mission, on top of completing all your objectives. I've tackled each mission at the Expert level, and all the stats you'll find – what treasure is where, how much there is, etc. – are specifically for that difficulty. I haven't played through the easier levels myself, but I've heard there are differences. For instance, in Mission 2, 'Break From Cragscleft Prison,' there's treasure hidden behind a banner you cut down, which apparently offers a quick escape route on easier settings.
Just so you know, this whole guide is based on the PC version of the game. I'm not sure if other versions are out there, but this is what I've been playing on.
2.1: Best Times
Discover best mission times for Thief: The Dark Project, including specifics for Lord Bafford's Manor. All treasure collected.
Note: The best time for a mission does not necessarily reflect the methods used in this walkthrough. For instance, the best time for Lord Bafford's Manor was achieved by mostly running, without hiding bodies, and without closing doors. However, each mission was completed with all possible treasure collected.
- Best times are often achieved through different playstyles than a standard walkthrough.
- Focus on collecting all available treasure to meet the criteria for best times.
