Learn how to deal with Zombies in Thief: The Dark Project. Discover their weaknesses, how to identify them, and the best weapons to use against these undead foes.
Walkthrough:
Zombies are encountered starting in Mission Two (Break from Cragscleft Prison). Initially, they appear as indistinguishable corpses. When you approach one, it will make a noise and awaken, giving you a brief window of opportunity (up to 2 seconds) to react before it stands to attack. These awakened corpses are referred to as Corpse-Zombies.
Once a Zombie is awake, it cannot be killed by conventional means like sword hacking; they will simply rise again. Arrows are slightly more effective, as they may not always reanimate if you are at a distance. However, Zombies are very slow, allowing you to easily outmaneuver them. They will pursue if you run away but will not chase for long, a mechanic that becomes apparent in Mission 3, "Down in the Bonehoard."
It is important to note that any human corpse can become a Zombie, not just the decaying ones. Mission 3, "Down in the Bonehoard," even features a headless Zombie, so never assume a corpse is inert.
- Effective Weapons: Fire Arrows, Holy Water Arrows (Water Arrows dipped in Holy Water), Flash Bombs, and Explosive Mines are effective against Zombies.
- Fire Arrow Strategy: If you shoot a Zombie from behind with a Fire Arrow, it typically takes only one arrow to destroy it. If the Zombie sees the arrow coming, it usually requires two.
- Mobility: Zombies are slow. You can run circles around them or easily escape their pursuit by running away.
