Vergen & Pontar Valley Lore

Uncover the lore of Vergen & Pontar Valley in The Witcher 2, focusing on Chapter 2 quests like 'The Eternal Battle' and navigating political conflicts.

Vergen and the Pontar Valley are central to Chapter 2, particularly on Iorveth's path. Quests like "Death Symbolized" and "The Eternal Battle" delve into the region's history and ongoing conflicts. Players will navigate the political landscape, engage in various side quests, and uncover secrets tied to the fate of Aedirn. The area offers unique challenges and opportunities for character progression.

Chapter 2 on Iorveth's side features several key quests and activities:

  • Main Quests:
    • Prelude to War: Aedirn
    • The War Council
    • Mottle Love Scene
    • Subterranean Life (Hey, Work's on in the Mines!)
    • A Score to Settle
    • With Flickering Heart (The Eternal Battle) (Hunting Magic)
    • Where is Triss Merigold? Continued (Mystic River Continued)

    • A Sackful of Fluff

On Roche's side, Chapter 2 also involves significant events in the region, including:

  • Main Quests:
    • Prelude to War: Kaedwen
    • Conspiracy Theory
    • The Blood Curse
    • The Assassins of Kings Continued
    • The Spear of Destiny
    • Death Symbolized
    • Where is Triss Merigold? Continued
    • The Blood Curse Continued

    • The Siege of Vergen (Mystic River Continued)
  • Side Quests:
    • Bring it on: Kaedweni Camp
    • Poker Face: Kaedweni Camp
    • A Sackful of Fluff

When exiting Vergen in search of the Dun Banner Standard during the main quest "Death Symbolized," a large group of Bandits will be encountered. This provides an opportunity to earn Achievement #30 – Threesome by performing a Group Finisher on three or more Bandits simultaneously. Group Finishers only kill multiple human enemies; on monsters, they kill a maximum of one.

For financial gain, collecting Kaedweni swords at the end of Act II is profitable, selling for 30 Orens each. On Iorveth's path, a "loan" (free money) can be obtained from Igor Vivaldi outside the mines in Vergen. Harpy feathers are also a good source of income.

The Ban Ard Armor, though tempting, should not be purchased from the Mysterious Merchant in Act II. It can be found for free after defeating a golem in a cave during "Where is Triss Merigold?" when crossing the fog on Iorveth's path, or in the same spot underneath the military camp on Roche's path.
