This section covers the Guitar and Handiness skills in The Sims 3. While Gardening is mentioned as concluding, the focus shifts to these two new skills.

Guitar Skill: This skill is crucial for the Music career. It's developed through practice or by using books and classes. As your Sim's skill level increases, they learn new songs. At Level 5, Sims can perform for tips in public, offering a quick way to earn money (Simoleons). Higher levels unlock more songs, and purchasing compositions from the bookstore can supplement learned songs. Level 5 also enables serenading, a romantic social interaction. The skill has three challenges: Guitar Star (perform at 10 parties), Master Guitarist (learn all compositions), and Money Maker (earn 5,000 Simoleons from performances). Rewards include increased tip earnings, new songs, and master tracks.

Handiness Skill: This skill replaces the Mechanical skill and is used for tinkering with, repairing, and upgrading equipment. It can be improved by repairing broken items, tinkering, or upgrading. Higher skill levels increase success rates in these actions and decrease failure chances. Sims with the Handiness trait always succeed. By Level 3, Sims can upgrade appliances like dishwashers and stoves, and improve TVs. At Level 10, Sims receive a permanent 25% discount on all items from the Buy catalog. The skill has three challenges: Electrician (repair 10 electrical objects), Plumber (repair 10 plumbing items), and a third unnamed challenge. Rewards include never being electrocuted again and plumbing items never breaking.
