Underground Jungle: Plantera

Learn how to prepare an arena, choose equipment, and strategize for the Plantera boss fight in Terraria, including its forms, attacks, and drops.

Plantera is the next boss you'll face, and she can be a significant threat if you're not adequately prepared. This guide will walk you through setting up an effective arena, choosing the right gear, and understanding her attack patterns to ensure victory.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Plantera's arena must be in the Underground Jungle, or she will enrage, gaining double damage, double defense, and increased speed.
• Weapons with good spread or piercing are recommended to deal with her addons.

Phases:

1. Phase 1: Plantera moves slowly and primarily uses ranged seed attacks. At 80% HP, she gains the ability to fire green poison seeds and thorn balls. In Expert Mode, these projectiles gain homing capabilities and can pass through blocks.
2. Phase 2: Plantera becomes much faster and more aggressive, releasing spores for contact damage. She sprouts Tentacles attached to Hooks. Her defense drops significantly in this phase. In Expert Mode, Tentacles attach to Hooks, making dodging more challenging.

Strategy:

• Arena Preparation: Create a large vertical rectangle with 2-3 levels of wooden platforms spaced evenly (e.g., at 25%, 50%, and 75% height). This allows for easy vertical movement to dodge attacks. Consider adding sunflowers and honey pits for buffs and healing.
• Equipment: While no single weapon is overwhelmingly superior, the Daedalus Stormbow can be effective due to its spread, though it's best used in the lower half of the arena to avoid hitting the ceiling. Weapons with good spread or piercing are generally recommended to deal with Plantera's addons.
• Summoning: Plantera naturally spawns when a small pink bulb in the Underground Jungle is destroyed with a pickaxe. This bulb appears after defeating the mechanical bosses and takes time to grow. There is no summoning item.
• During the Fight: Utilize your arena's verticality to evade Plantera's attacks. Focus on destroying the Tentacles in Phase 2 as quickly as possible, as they are attached to Hooks. Prioritize damaging Plantera herself, especially in Phase 2 when her defense is lower.

Drops:

• Normal Mode: Coins, Temple Key (100%), Seedling (5%), The Axe (2%), Pygmy Staff (25%), Thorn Hook (10%), Greater Healing Potions (5-15, 100%), Plantera Mask (14.29%), Plantera Trophy (10%), and one of seven powerful weapons (Grenade Launcher, Venus Magnum, Nettle Burst, Leaf Blower, Flower Pow, Wasp Gun, Seedler) at 14.29% each.
• Expert Mode: Coins, Spore Sac (100%).
• Master Mode: Plantera Seedling (25%), Plantera Relic (100%).

Notable Drops:

• Nettle Burst: A magic weapon that pierces infinitely and deals high damage over time, useful for safe ranged combat.
• Grenade Launcher: The first rocket launcher, with decent knockback and high damage projectiles that bounce.
• Venus Magnum: A pistol that fires bullets as High Velocity Bullets.
• Leaf Blower: A magic weapon with extremely low use time that rapidly shoots leaf projectiles, consuming mana quickly.
