Learn how to summon and defeat the optional boss Duke Fishron in Terraria. This guide covers strategies, phases, and essential equipment for this challenging fight.

Duke Fishron is an optional boss in Terraria, known for its extreme difficulty, comparable to the final boss. Despite its challenge, Duke Fishron drops valuable endgame equipment. To summon this boss, you must first acquire a Truffle Worm, a rare critter found only in Mushroom Biomes within the Cavern layer. Creating a custom Mushroom Biome is recommended, using mud blocks and mushroom seeds purchased from the Dryad. Utilize NPC spawning mechanics by constantly moving and killing enemies to increase the chances of Truffle Worms spawning. A Lifeform Analyzer can help detect nearby worms. Be quick when catching them, as they burrow underground when approached. In Journey Mode, Truffle Worms can be duplicated, allowing for unlimited attempts at summoning Duke Fishron after obtaining five.

To initiate the fight, take a Truffle Worm to the Ocean Biome. It's advisable to have your Pylon nearby for quick access in case of defeat. Prepare a specialized arena, as Duke Fishron's attacks are difficult to avoid. The arena should be wide, similar to a Plantera arena, to accommodate his powerful water tornado attacks (Sharknados/Cthulhunados) that can reach high into the screen.

For Ranger players, the Stynger weapon, obtainable from the Golem boss, is highly effective due to its explosive nature and synergy with Ichor, dealing massive damage to the constantly charging Duke Fishron. Bolts for the Stynger can be purchased from the Arms Dealer.

Phase 1 Strategy: Duke Fishron charges five times, then uses either bubble attacks (destroy them quickly) or summons small Sharknados that fire small sharks (Sharkrons). Focus on dodging.

Phase 2 Strategy: At 50% HP, Duke Fishron enrages. His charges become faster, and his projectile attacks are upgraded. Bubbles are left as trails, and Sharknados become Cthulhunados that follow you and expand into massive Cthulhunados firing more sharks. This phase is significantly more difficult.

Expert Mode Strategy: At 15% HP, Duke Fishron enters a third stage. The screen darkens, and he becomes invisible except for his glowing eyes. He only charges, but gains the ability to teleport. The pattern is charge-teleport x1, x2, x3, then resets. He can inflict Bleeding or Feral Bite on charge hits.
