Learn how to trigger and defeat the Terraria Pirate Invasion event. Discover drops like the Pirate Staff, Coin Gun, and Greedy Ring, and strategies for farming.
The Pirate Invasion is an event in Terraria that spawns pirates, including Pirate Captains and Flying Dutchmen. It triggers when you have at least 200 HP and have destroyed at least one Demon Altar or Crimson Altar. You can also summon it using a Pirate Map, which has a 1% chance to drop from enemies in the Ocean Biome. Alternatively, Pirate Maps can be obtained from defeating King Slime, Harpies, or Wyverns.
- 1Trigger the event by meeting the HP and Altar destruction requirements, or by using a Pirate Map.
- 2Defeat the waves of pirates, which include melee and ranged variants, as well as Pirate Captains.
- 3When a Pirate Captain is killed, a Pirate's Curse will spawn. This enemy can phase through blocks.
- 4At 65% event completion, Flying Dutchmen (large ships) will begin to spawn.
- 5To defeat a Flying Dutchman, destroy all of its cannons, each with its own health bar. The ship will fire cannons that explode on impact.
- 6Defeated Flying Dutchmen will respawn after a short time, allowing for farming.
- You can AFK the event by boxing yourself in and using weapons that can pierce blocks or attack from outside the box, such as the Daedalus Stormbow. Use minions or Expert Mode items to deal with the Pirate's Curse.
- To farm Flying Dutchmen efficiently, position yourself on a platform high enough in the sky to prevent ground enemies from spawning but low enough to prevent Harpies from spawning. This ensures only Flying Dutchmen appear. You can defeat approximately 10 Flying Dutchmen before the event ends if you start farming at 65% completion.
