Learn about enemy classes like Garcia, Donnie, Signal, Skull Cyborg, Jay, Kickboxer, and Bongo in Streets of Rage 4.

Garcia

Appearances: Streets of Rage I, II, III, IV

  • Galsia (Blue vest/pants, red hair) - Stage 1
  • B.T. (Yellow vest/pants, black skin) - Stage 1
  • Galsiaaaa (Blue vest/pants, blond hair) - Stage 3: A normal Galsia after being struck with Nora’s whip. Has more health and can no longer be stunned by normal attacks. He can still be thrown.
  • Jonathan (Light gray vest/pants) - Stage 8
  • Joseph (Green vest/pants) - Stage 9
  • Garam (Black vest/pants) - Stage 10
  • Brash (Red vest/pants) - Stage 12

Basic goons. You only need to worry somewhat if they have or are near a one-handed weapon, as they will try to run at you with it. Mostly it will be a knife, but they can also use sais, stunguns and even spears. Anyone can combo an armed Garcia, but it’s the longer limbed fighters who can do it more safely. You can also throw a knife or use a long-range weapon. Dealing with Garcias charging at you with long-range spears can make the dojo area of the Chinatown stage a pain in the neck. Punching the Spear Garcias won’t work - jump kick them. Throwing an armed Garcia is risky, but it can be done. Brash, B.T. and Garam seem to be the only Garcias who prefer to fight barehanded.

I will refer to these mooks in general as “Garcias” (as “Galsia” is actually a corruption of “Garcia”).

Donnie

Appearances: Streets of Rage II, III, IV

  • Donovan (Blue pants) - Stage 1
  • Altet (Green pants) - Stage 5
  • Gudden (Red pants) - Stage 10
  • Z (Yellow pants) - Stage 10

Tend to gravitate towards long two-handed weapons such as pipes, bats and katanas. Tendency to throw weapons at you. They can sometimes catch any weapons you throw at them. They retain the anti-air uppercut from SOR 3, so no flying attacks if he’s unarmed. Armed Donnies can’t use the uppercut, so they are safe to jump kick.

I will use “Donnie” (a diminutive of Donovan) to refer to all enemies of this class.

Signal

Appearances: Streets of Rage I, II, III, IV

  • Y. Signal (Yellow coat) - Stage 1
  • G. Signal (Green coat) - Stage 1
  • R. Signal (Red coat) - Stage 9
  • D. Signal (Light blue coat) - Stage 10

Main attacks: throw, slide, backhand. As annoying as ever. Their two most obnoxious attacks are their throw and slide. Turn your back to them and use your Back Attack. Blitzes and Jump Kicks also work.

Skull Cyborg

Appearances: Streets of Rage IV

  • Koobo (Purple upper body, red hair) - Stage 1
  • Baabo (Gray upper body, white hair) - Stage 12

Warning: They will catch any weapon you throw at them. They can produce, swing and throw weapons, use telekinesis to hurl weapons at you, and use a jumping stomp attack that you must dodge. Koobo’s stomp is more like a single Final Fantasy Dragon Knight-style dive attack, while Baabo hops around a few times.

A cyborg with a skull-like helmet, hence the name.

Jay

Appearances: Streets of Rage IV

  • Dylan (Blue pants) - Stage 1
  • Kevin (Yellow pants) - Stage 1
  • Francis (Green pants) - Stage 3
  • Brandon (Magenta pants) - Stage 11

Their main attacks are flying kicks, a headbutt and a front kick. Long-limbed fighters need only to worry about their flying kicks. Back attacks seem to work well.

Looks like the character Jay from the Clerks and Jay & Silent Bob movies, so I’m naming them all “Jays”.

Kickboxer

Appearances: Streets of Rage II, IV

  • Raven (Red trunks, black top, blue hair) - Stage 6
  • Condor (Teal trunks and top, red hair) - Stage 6
  • Pheasant (Black trunks, white top, black hair) - Stage 6
  • Sparrow (Green trunks and top, purple hair) - Stage 12

Have the ability to block your attack. Unlike SOR II, they don’t receive chip damage. The attack you need to worry about the most is their flying knee, which they are not shy about spamming or using on you while you are being distracted or juggled. The Sparrow’s version of the knee has armor. If you try to approach upfront, they can easily stop you with their kicks. Characters with long reach can combo them without worrying about the kicks.

“Kickboxer” is pretty self-explanatory.

Bongo

Appearances: Streets of Rage I, II, III, IV

  • Big Ben (Red cap/pants, white shirt) - Stage 3: Breathes fire.
  • Gourmand (Purple cap/pants, yellow shirt) - Stage 6: Has a body splash attack.
  • Anry (Blue cap/pants, light blue shirt) - Stage 10: Has a rolling attack.
  • Heart (Green cap/pants, light green shirt) - Stage 12: Same rolling attack as Anry.

Luckily, they can be thrown just like in SOR 2. Are very tough.

“Bongo” was actually the Japanese name for “Big Ben”.

Tips
  • When facing armed Garcias, jump kick them if they charge with spears.
  • Back Attacks are effective against Signals.
  • Characters with long reach can safely combo Kickboxers.
  • Bongos can be thrown.
