Walkthrough for Streets of Rage 4 Part 14. Learn how to defeat the annoying Gems, the mini-boss Zamza, and the boss Estel Aguirre with character-specific strategies.
This section covers Part 14 of Streets of Rage 4, focusing on dealing with the irritating "Gems" enemy type, a mini-boss fight against Zamza, and the boss battle against Estel Aguirre.
Enemies: Gems
The Gems are an obnoxious enemy type whose main attack is a drop kick. They frequently spam this attack, even from afar or at awkward angles. When multiple Gems are present, a drop kick can put you in a juggle state, allowing other Gems to hit you while you're airborne. They often use the animation for their drop kick as a distraction for other enemies like Riders, Garcias, or Jays to attack.
Strategies for Gems:
- SOR4 Blaze: Her Hishousouzan can sometimes interrupt a Gem's drop kick, but Jump Kick is safer. Tobi Kyaku can juggle Gems, and Embukyaku, Hien Zan, and Shin Hishousouzan are also options. Rekkaken is generally ineffective and can be beaten by a Gem's drop kick.
- SOR1 Blaze: Must evade the drop kick or use a well-timed Back Attack or Jump Kick.
- SOR2 Blaze: Defensive Specials are 100% effective but consume health. A well-timed Haymaker or a well-positioned Jump Kick can also work. Blitz attacks are ineffective.
- SOR3 Blaze: Hishousouzan and Chou Reppa Dan are immediately effective against drop kicks.
- General: If facing a single Gem, evade her attack and use your strongest combo. Against multiple Gems, try throwing one at the others (Blaze is invincible while throwing). Be aware that you can only be knocked into pits, not walk or dash into them.
Mini-Boss: Zamza
Located at the end of Stage 4-1, after defeating Murphys and Barneys, use a Taser on an arcade machine to initiate the fight.
- SOR1 and SOR2 Blaze: Use Basic Combos for hit-and-run tactics.
- SOR4 Blaze: Use Basic Combo into Blitz attacks.
- SOR3 Blaze: Use Basic Combo into Blitz into Special attacks. Running Hishousouzan is not recommended; running Chou Reppa Dans are more effective. Grabbing Zamza is difficult due to his speed and range.
Inside the arcade, you can let enemies fight each other before engaging the survivors, often Cops and Riot Cops.
Stage 4-2 Enemies
This stage features more Signals and Garcias, but no more cops. Signals are cautious and opportunistic, backing away when approached but attacking when your back is turned. Use the turn-your-back trick if they rely too much on slides.
BOSS: Estel Aguirre
Before the fight, if a bottle is available, throw it at Estel for initial damage.
- Estel occasionally uses an anti-air flip heel kick that can beat aerial attacks but may miss, creating an opening.
- Avoid approaching Estel head-on unless your character has long reach, as her punches are fast and have high priority. SOR1 Blaze is recommended for direct confrontations.
- SOR4 Blaze: Use Basic Combo to Blitz (to Special). Rekkaken can counter her Boot Mark kick.
- SOR2 Blaze: Hishousouzan is ineffective, but Elbow Strike works well and can stop her Boot Mark. Basic Combo, Basic Combo to Special, Basic Combo to Elbow Strike, or Basic Combo to Star Move are also viable.
- SOR3 Blaze: Has strong options (details cut off in source).
