Streets of Rage 4 Part 16 walkthrough covering Abedede, Barbon, and Goro boss fights, plus Chinatown stage enemies.
Once all the enemies are beaten, the arcade machine should still be safe, barring bad luck.
Get the taser and use it on the arcade machine to fight another mini-boss: Abedede.
MINI-BOSS: Abedede
Try not to approach him head-on, but attack from below or above. Otherwise he’s not too hard. When he’s preparing to charge, move out the way. There’s a Large Health Item if you need it.
SOR1 Blaze can use her Basic Combo. SOR2 Blaze can use Basic Combo-to-Blitz. SOR4 Blaze can use Basic Combo-to-Hishousouzan (-to-Air Special), or Basic Combo-to-Rekkaken or Kikou Shou (-to-Shin Kikou Shou).
SOR2 Blaze’s Hishousouzan is safe to use against Abedede’s body splash and charge attack, but not her Elbow Strike. Use Elbow Strike only as part of a Combo.
SOR3 Blaze can chase Abedede down with either Blitz, then follow up with a Special. Due to her short reach, any Combo Chain that started with a Basic Combo has been difficult to use. Grabbing him instead and Ground Slamming him to death has often worked.
A well-timed Hishousouzan from SOR4 Blaze can stop his Body Splash and can help her dodge his running attacks. Use Rekkaken only as part of a Combo - it will not work against Abedede’s charge or his body splash.
Any Blaze can also use grab to Ground Slam on him if she is close enough.
Roo/Victy makes a cameo appearance towards the end of this area.
STAGE 5-3
BOSS: Barbon
Only characters with a long reach, like SOR1 Blaze, can sometimes get away with combo-ing him up front. Watch out for his punch, though.
When he pauses and strains, he is preparing a kick barrage. Stay either directly above or below him when he does this. Prepare to either combo or throw him whenever he gets close.
Try not to destroy the bikes, as every bike you destroy will summon a Rider. The only bike you can destroy without bringing in a Rider is the one he was sitting on when you first saw him. If you destroy Barbon’s bike, you will get a motorcycle piece that you can throw at him for some extra damage. SOR3 Blaze also uses the motorcycle piece in her Weapon Charge (good if you need to get rid of any Riders). On lower difficulties, you can also use the 8-ball to take off a good chunk of health at the very start of the fight.
He has an anti-air kick, so no flying kicks or Hishousouzans if you’re not using SOR3 Blaze. Blitzes safe to use against Barbon: both of SOR3’s Blitzes, SOR2’s Elbow Strike, and SOR4’s Rekkaken.
Strategy-wise:
- With SOR1 Blaze - Basic Combo (-to-Drill Kick)
- SOR2 Blaze - Basic Combo (-to-Star Move). Elbow Strike can also be useful - if you can Elbow Strike him into the wall and make him bounce off, you can get in a free Basic Combo.
- SOR3 Blaze - Basic Combo-to-Blitz-to-Special (-to-Star Move), Blitz-to-Defensive Special. Chou Reppa Dan can sometimes be used to disrupt Barbon’s kick barrages.
- SOR4 Blaze - Basic Combo-to-Hishousouzan-to-Special (-to-Star Move), Rekkaken from afar, Basic Combo-to-Rekkaken (-to-Shin Kikou Shou).
Stage 6 - Chinatown
STAGE 6-1
This stage introduces the Kickboxers. Their short-range kicks and flying knees make them dangerous opponents. SOR1 Blaze doesn’t need to worry too much about his ground kicks and a well-timed Back Attack can stop his Flying Knee.
SOR2 Blaze’s Jump Kick works great against a Flying Knee; a Haymaker if the Knee is launched from far away from her can also work. Neither of her Blitzes work against the Flying Knee.
SOR3 Blaze can easily shut down a Flying Knee with either Blitz.
As for SOR4 Blaze - both the Jump Kick and Rekkaken work well against a Flying Knee; Hishousouzan can only work either as long as he is still on the ground or as he is coming down.
Near the entrance to the restaurant you will encounter a Gourmand. In Mania+, there will be two Gourmands. The Gourmand’s body splash is hard to dodge and counter. And he loves to spam it. If you and the Gourmand are horizontally aligned, either SOR1 or SOR2 Blaze can try a well-timed Jump Kick to shut it down. If you don’t feel confident enough to counter it, SOR1 Blaze can evade it and SOR2 Blaze can use her Defensive Special. The SOR3 Blaze can use both Blitzes against the Body Splash. As for SOR4 Blaze, Hishousouzan and Jump Kicks work only as Gourmand comes down from the Body Splash - and Rekkaken doesn’t work at all.
After defeating the Gourmand(s), go into the restaurant kitchen. The meat cleavers are devastating to use as they will cleave through an entire group of enemies when thrown.
At the end of Stage 6-1 will be your first Karateka encounter.
MINI-BOSS(ES): Goro x1 (Easy, Normal, Hard, Hardest), Goro x2 (Mania, Mania+)
If you safely trick the Goro into getting close enough to the barrel so that he gets caught in the blast, try it. Remember, you’re faster than him - you’ll be well out of the blast radius when that barrel goes.
The most common method of beating him is grabbing and either neutral kicking, Ground Slamming or throwing him. You can do this with any of the Blazes. However, DO NOT USE YOUR COMBOS!
