- 1Building Pokémon Links: Characters can gradually build compatibility, or a "Link," with a Pokémon. This can be done by visiting outlets in a castle town or by fighting wild Pokémon. Taming wild Pokémon during battle allows for switching between multiple Pokémon or obtaining multiple Links. Compatibility is shown with bronze, silver, or gold medals; an 'X' means a Link is not possible. Each character has a "Best Link Pokémon" that can achieve 100% linkage.
- 2Character and Pokémon Evolution: Pokémon can evolve, and some require Evolutionary Stones. Characters can also change their appearance based on their Link percentage with their Pokémon partner. The protagonist has three forms based on strength, and Warlords have two or three ranks.
