Understanding the Battle System
Learn the ins and outs of Pokémon Conquest's battle system. Understand unification and battle stages, Warrior Skills, Pokémon links, and elemental types to conquer Ransei.
The battle system in Pokémon Conquest involves two main phases: unification and battle stages. In unification stages, players manage their territory on a map of Japan, with each character limited to one action per turn (one month). Up to six characters can be stationed in a castle. Battles occur on a 2D grid where up to six generals and their Pokémon fight. Characters can use 'Warrior Skills' once per battle to aid their Pokémon. Pokémon retain their elemental weaknesses and special abilities from the main series. A Pokémon's 'Energy' level, indicated by colored arrows, affects their performance and can be restored by resting or eating ponigiri. Characters can build compatibility ('Link') with Pokémon, which can evolve and change character appearance. Some Pokémon have a 'Best Link Pokémon' that allows for 100% linkage.

This section covers the advanced mechanics of Pokémon Conquest, focusing on the strategic elements that go beyond basic gameplay. Understanding these mechanics is crucial for mastering the game and achieving victory.
Gameplay Mechanics:
- Unification Stage: This phase borrows from turn-based strategy games. Players manage land on a map, plan troop movements, and can assign AI control to armies once a certain size is reached. Each character has one action per turn, representing one month. A maximum of six characters can be stationed in a castle.
- Character-Pokémon Link: Characters can build compatibility, or a "Link," with Pokémon. This can be done by visiting castle towns or fighting wild Pokémon. Successfully taming wild Pokémon allows for multiple Link options. Compatibility is shown with bronze, silver, or gold medals; an 'X' indicates no Link is possible. Each character has a "Best Link Pokémon" that can achieve 100% linkage.
- Evolution and Forms: Pokémon can evolve, with some requiring Evolutionary Stones. Characters can also change their appearance based on their Link percentage with their Pokémon. The protagonist has three forms based on strength, and Warlords have multiple ranks.
- Battle Stage: Battles occur on specialized grid-based battlefields. Up to six generals/Pokémon per side can participate.
- Warrior Skills: Characters can use unique "Warrior Skills" once per battle to aid their Pokémon.
- Equipment: Items found or purchased can provide supplementary assistance in battles.
- Elemental Weaknesses and Abilities: Core Pokémon type advantages and immunities apply. Special abilities and group attacks require careful planning.
- Energy Level: A Pokémon's "Energy" (willpower to fight) is indicated by colored arrows. Low energy can be restored by resting or feeding the Pokémon ponigiri.
