BOSS: Zubat (x1), Koffing (x1)

Defeat Zubat and Koffing in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky using Pikachu's Electric moves. Learn about team formation and the start of Chapter 2.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
If you have Pikachu, focus its Electric moves on Zubat, as Zubat is weak to them.
  2. 2
Have your other Pokémon focus on Koffing.
  3. 3
Warning: Prioritize defeating Zubat first because it has the move Leech Life, which absorbs HP.
  4. 4
Once Zubat is defeated, switch your focus to Koffing.
  5. 5
If you brought a seed, throw it at Zubat first before engaging.
  6. 6
After defeating Zubat and Koffing, they will run away, dropping your partner's treasure.
  7. 7
Your partner will then talk to you about wanting to become an explorer at the local guild to investigate a mysterious stone.
  8. 8
Your partner will ask you to join up in a team; you must say "yes" to progress. Saying "no" will not allow you to proceed.
  9. 9
Chapter 1 will end after you agree to form a team.
  10. 10
You and your partner will head to Wigglytuff's Guild.
  11. 11
A sentry will have trouble identifying your footprint due to your rare species.
  12. 12
You will be allowed inside the guild.
  13. 13
Inside, you and your partner will go down a floor.
  14. 14
Chatot will greet you and take you to Guildmaster Wigglytuff.
  15. 15
After some talking, you will choose a name for your team, or use the default "PokéPals". The game automatically adds "Team" to your chosen name.
  16. 16
You will receive a Treasure Bag, which can hold up to 16 items. It will initially contain two items: a stat-boosting Band and a colored bow.
  17. 17
You will receive your team badge, which updates based on missions completed.
  18. 18
You will receive the Wonder Map, which shows explored areas.

  20. 20
Your partner will discuss the day's events.
  21. 21
Loudred will wake you up for an assembly.
  22. 22
After Wigglytuff's speech and the guild motto, Chatot will direct you to the Job Boards.
  23. 23
Chatot will explain mystery dungeons, where floor layouts change and fainting results in losing money (Poké) and items.
  24. 24
Chatot will assign you a job: retrieving a Spoink's pearl.
  25. 25
You will enter Drenched Bluff, a dungeon with 6 floors (bottom floor is 7F).
  26. 26
Dominant types in Drenched Bluff are various, with 50% being part Rock-type.
  27. 27
You will encounter throwing items like Geo Pebbles, which deal 10 damage. Using L+R can activate a shortcut for them.
  28. 28
Using a move on an enemy grants extra EXP; killing with a thrown item only yields 50% of the EXP.
  29. 29
Avoid using Water-type moves against Shellos, as its Storm Drain ability negates Water-type move damage.
  30. 30
Shellos is weak to Electric and Grass moves and strong against Fire-types.
  31. 31
Other Pokémon encountered include Anorith, Lileep, and Chingling.
  32. 32
Anorith is Rock-type, weak to Water and Grass moves, and strong against Fire and Normal moves.
  33. 33
Lileep is Grass-Rock type, weak to Fire moves, and resistant to Water/Grass moves. Electric/Normal moves do half damage against Lileep.
  34. 34
Chingling is not a significant threat, but beware of its Wrap move.
  35. 35
Upon reaching the final floor (7F) of Drenched Bluff, you will pick up Spoink's pearl.
  36. 36
You will automatically return to the guild.
  37. 37
Spoink will be very happy, and you will receive a reward.

BOSS: Groudon

Learn how to defeat the illusionary Groudon in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. Discover its weaknesses and the strategy to overcome this fiery foe.

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • Type: Ground
  • Weaknesses: Grass, Ice (Water moves are weakened due to Drought)
  • Abilities: Drought (activates harsh sunlight)

Phases:

  1. Phase 1: Groudon (Illusion)
    • Groudon uses Fire-type and Ground-type moves.
    • Its Drought ability makes the battlefield sunny, boosting Fire moves and weakening Water moves.
    • Solarbeam can be used instantly due to the sun.

Strategy:

  • Lead with Status: Start the battle by inflicting a status condition on Groudon, like Sleep or Paralysis, using moves like Sleep Seed or Thunder Wave.
  • Exploit Weaknesses: Once a status is applied, focus on using Grass or Ice-type moves. Remember that Water-type moves will be significantly less effective due to Drought.
  • Partner's Role: Instruct your partner Pokémon to only use moves that are super-effective against Groudon.
  • Level Up: Ensure your team is well-leveled before the fight. A higher level makes this battle much more manageable.
  • Post-Battle: After defeating the illusionary Groudon, Uxie will appear and reveal the truth. You'll then proceed to a cutscene involving the Time Gear at Fogbound Lake.

BOSS: Luxray (x1), Luxio (x7)

Learn the best strategies to take down the Electric-type Luxray and Luxio in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. Discover weaknesses and tips for this tough boss fight.

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • Type: Electric
  • Weaknesses: Ground
  • Resisted by: Water, Flying

Phases:

  1. Phase 1: The Ambush
You'll face one Luxray and seven Luxio. They're all Electric-types, so anything Water or Flying you brought is going to take a beating. Your best bet is to hit them hard with Ground-type moves. If you have a Pokémon that can use Magnitude or another move that hits the whole room, absolutely go for it. Don't forget status conditions! Mud Sport can make a big difference here, reducing the damage they deal.
  2. Phase 2: The Aftermath
After you defeat the initial group, the Luxray isn't quite done. It'll start charging up a powerful attack, but thankfully, Dusknoir intervenes. He manages to talk down the Luxio tribe, convincing them you're not a threat and just looking for the Water Float. They'll then retreat, and it turns out they were attacked here previously.

Strategy:

  • Focus on Ground-type attacks to exploit their Electric weakness.
  • Use status moves like Mud Sport to reduce incoming damage.
  • If you have any moves that hit all enemies on the screen (like Magnitude), use them liberally.
  • Be prepared for the Luxray to attempt a powerful charge-up attack after the Luxio are dealt with.

After the battle, you'll retrieve the Water Float. Dusknoir will point out that someone deliberately placed it there and reveal that Team Skull was hiding nearby. They'll challenge Dusknoir and then leave. Back in Treasure Town, you return the Water Float to the Marill brothers. Later, you and your partner discuss your 'Dimensional Screams' with Dusknoir. Suddenly, Pelipper start flying around, and Bidoof rushes in to tell you there's an important announcement at the guild. It turns out another Time Gear has been stolen, this time from Fogbound Lake, and Grovyle is the culprit. The guild's new mission is to find him. You're assigned to the Northern Desert to protect Time Gears there. This dungeon is 16 floors long and features Sandstorms on floors 6, 10, and 11, which damage non-Ground, Rock, and Steel types. You'll encounter various Pokémon like Aron, Lairon, Cubone, Sandshrew, Larvitar, Trapinch, Rhyhorn, Baltoy, Cacnea, Cacturne, and Carnivine, each with their own resistances and weaknesses. After clearing the Northern Desert, you'll find a clearing with quicksand pits. Jumping into one leads you to a hidden dungeon, Quicksand Cave, which has 10 floors plus a breather room.
