Walkthrough

    Ensure you have TM Flash taught to a Pokémon. Use Flash to illuminate the cave. If you don't have it, purchase it from Narrow Street in Castelia City.

    Use HM Strength to push the first boulder right, then down into the hole. If you lack HM Strength, it's in Nimbasa City (house north-west of the Pokémon Center).

    Cross the plugged hole and proceed right. Battle the Hiker (Boldore, Level 34).

    Push the next boulder right to create a crossing.

    Go past the boulder, head right, up the steps, and continue up to battle another Hiker (Drilbur, Level 33; Gurdurr, Level 33).

    To the right of the Hiker, collect the Max Repel.

    Head left from the Hiker, down the steps, and use Strength to push the boulder left, creating a shortcut to the entrance.

    Go back up the steps and then up to find a Hyper Potion.

    Before the steps leading up, go down to find a large stairway to the right, leading to Floor 2F.

    Floor 2F: Drop down the steps to the right. Use Strength to push the boulder right, bridging a gap.

    Cross the gap, go up the steps above, and head right.

    Leap down the steps, head all the way up, ignoring the boulder for now.

    Climb the steps at the end and run left to get TM80 Rock Slide.

    Backtrack to the boulder and push it left into the gap.

    Head left to a large stairway leading up. You can also push the boulder on your left to create a shortcut to this floor's entrance.

    Guidance Chamber: Run right. An NPC will explain the Legendary Pokémon.

    Go up the nearby steps and head north-west. Push the boulder south (and the next one if desired).

    Head left up the steps and follow the left-most narrow path up. Save your game.

    Legendary Pokemon: Cobalion (Level 42, Steel/Fighting) will appear.
Tips for Catching Cobalion
  • Be patient and carefully lower its HP, ideally into the red zone.
  • Apply a non-damaging status condition like Sleep or Paralysis.
  • Use False Swipe (from Professor Juniper in Nuvema Town) to guarantee the opponent is left with at least 1 HP.
  • Use Ultra Balls, Dusk Balls (at night or in caves), or Timer Balls for capture.

After catching Cobalion, you can find Virizion in Pinwheel Forest and Terrakion in Victory Road.
